Yeah I use to look at that property and dream of winning the lotto and walking into a hunters paradise already setup with stands, food plots, etc...They killed some hoggs off that farm.

    Dan,

The wily gobbler in S.D. will pluck that pop tart right from your teeth-after it finishes plucking your eyes. I hope we're both man enough! Have you set a date?

HA! Dubs and I were talking and I'll head out there somewhere between April 16-23. It all depends on when, or if, I have to go to Canada this spring. My guess is I'll have to go up there the first week of may for a couple weeks. What's your timeline look like?

I would LOVE to hear more about these Will.

    Yukon moose
    Mountain lion
    Brown bear
    Black bear

That's about it as far as dream hunts I still haven't done... but I still get a huge rush just out of my "normal" whitetail and elk hunting; hope it never changes.

The higher in the mountains the more I dream...Sheep top the list currently - I will stick a Rocky Mountain Bighorn...all Sheep and Goats up high catch get my attention.

The checklist also includes the 5 deer species...so I still need an Elk, Mulie, Moose, Caribou (probably in that order). Would love to get one of these in Alaska as I must draw blood there someday as well - but would "settle" for spot-n-stalk Black Bear or Blacktails if I had to:)

My dream trip, that I actually am planning on making a reality is to hunt the Selway/Bitterroot area of Idaho on a spike camp. Probably for Mule Deer and maybe elk.

This trip, for me, has a lot of sentimental value. My late father, who I lost 4 years ago, hunted twice in that area when I was a kid and not old enough to go. He spoke very fondly of hunting there. We talked many times about getting a trip together to go out, but unfortunately, the man above had other plans.

So, within the next couple of years, I'll be making a trip in there in his honor.

    Dan,

SD's season opens on the 9th of April. You need to apply online for a tag. You cannot get your Black Hills tag OTC. I can be there for either weekend (or both)- April 16-17 and April 23rd-24th.

Colorado for a Elk and Mule Deer hunt again would be cool. The last time I did this was 1982 which is way to long in between hunts. 130woodsman (Dan) hunts some public that I had hunted back then and I would have to say its some of the most beautiful area's in the country that ive seen.

Side note: Me and the family are going back there next year via train for a vacation.

Moose hunt in Maine would also be cool.\

Cougar hunt is right up there also.

    Something in common

I am a grad student as well pursuing my MBA; although, I am an older "non-traditional" student. I currently teach accounting and am overwhelmed with the tax season (I do taxes as well). Everytime I walk by our hunting room in the lower level of the house I can smell the earth scent from our hunting clothes and equipment. Every time I get the smell I think of the woods and my tree stand. My husband and I would like to take a trip to Canada hunting. I spent a week in the boundary waters last summer and witnessed some huge moose! When I found out how they were hunted I realized that is something I would like to do as well.
In the meantime, I look forward to next year's fall hunt. I am worried about the deer population here in Wisconsin. It has been a really hard winter and many deer are coming in close to town in search of food. They are getting hit by cars as a result. We also are seeing a growing problem with coyotes. And since they tend to come out during the night rather than the day, it is hard to shoot them!
Anyone else having a coyote problem?

Yes the Coyotes seem to be a big issue through out our great state of Wi. The deer numbers also seem to reflect this too. Their was a study just completed about the effects of yotes on the herd and they were listed #1 issue when it came to deer killings. They seem to forget about hunters too lol I will see if I can find this study and post it here for you.

UPDATE: Well that was quick and I found the article on this at least.

I work in finance, so I too have been busy prepping for tax season and getting accountants necessary tax info. I am also currently taking an accounting class in my MBA program. Not a huge fan and can't wait for it to end. When I do finish up I will finally have some time to get in the woods and start scouting some new spots for next year. Hopefully I draw my NH moose tag this year but I am not going to get my hopes up. A Canada or Alaska moose hunt would be amazing!

I have an obsession with mule deer and Montana right now, so I would dig a spot and stalk mule deer hunt in Montana. Oh, and Elk too.

    Also on my bucket list:

    Stalking Grizzlies
    Wolves

I'll pursue those when I get good at shooting whitetails.

So, I was planning on coming out from April 15th-April 24th, but my wife reminded me today that the 24th is Easter. I don't know exactly what's going on now....Dustin and I are talking about it. I'll keep you updated.

    Dan.

I purchased my Black Hills and SD state wide archery tags today. I'm good to go. A date is all I need.
