Good for you. You and your son will love every minute of it. Even if you do kill all your neighbors deer! lol
Congrats!!!! I have 4 acres that backs onto 150 acres solid bush I have permission on. But I am so jelious of you and wih I owned land behind me. Wouldn't need to share it with horse back riders and all the neighbors lol
After a long day at the property I finally have a great access road from the front road back to the back 40 acres. This 40 acres takes in a long ridge and I have my stand and feeder situated on the opposite end of the ridge from where this new access road comes up the ridge. It gives me the ability to enter the opposite end of the ridge and slip in quitely to my stand. I tried to keep the trail on the prevailing downwind side of the ridge. Anyway the bobcat did great. It handled this job with ease. I will be waiting to put in the plot on the ridge till after season ends. I'd like to have it ready for spring Turkey season. Anyway, now I have my access. Next thing is to hang all the stands.
Newest pic from the property! Looks like a 150's 11pt. Man I can't tell you all how happy I am to see a deer like this on the property less than 2 weeks after closing on it!
The Oklahoma youth rifle season is this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and I've got the buddy ladder stand hung and ready to go. Took my boy out last weekend and let him shoot a few through his remington model 770 .243. He's driving tacks as they say. Hopefully we'll have a little luck with us this weekend while we're sitting in the stand.
That's so awesome!!! Congrats to you! From the looks of it you will def be making some great memories there with your boy! Good luck with all the hard work ahead of you and it will be worth it in so many ways! Enjoy and congrats!!! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
We had a great couple of days in the stand but didn't have any luck shooting a deer. My son is 8 and still a little green but very motivated. We had 34 degree temp Saturday morning and he was bundled up and lasted about 1 hour and 45 minutes before getting too cold. Sunday evening he didn't want to get down from the stand. He really wants to get a shot. We'll get another chance with his rifle on November 1st in a local wma that he drew a youth hunt tag for. We had a blast and it's always the best time I've ever spent in a stand. On another note, I found two scrapes and a nice rub on the property about 50 yards from my stand. Hoping to get a shot at him soon. Sent from my LG-P930 using Tapatalk 2
Congrats on the property. I have that dream too and hope to accomplish it before I get too much older. Enjoy it, pictures look like it's a great place.
Hunted tonight but didn't have any luck. I did see 5 turkeys heading to the stand. Here's the view from the stand. Also found a new scrape. Moved one of my cameras to a mock scrape with a dripper hanging over it. Also pulled the card in the other camera and had a bunch more pics of this Guy at around an hour before sun up. That's a Buck! Get er Done! To whom much is given, much is required. You and your boy have a ton of good memories to make now. Congratulations on closing the deal and may your hard work pay you dividends in the years ahead! Great thread.
Nice work on clearing that trail! Did you have to cut a lot of trees and remove stumps or did you mostly just drive around trees? I have been looking at adding a trail system to my property but have no clue how to go about it.
That bobcat will do just about all you need done unless there is unlevel grade like up a large ridge. I was able to basically go around most of the trees but I did take out several smaller ones that were say the size of your calf in circumference. It's really amazing what that machine will do. The bucket I used had the ripper teeth on it and that was a huge help to dig out the base of some of the bigger trees and then pop them out with. Also I had to cross a creek and in order to do that I had to dig out the bank and make it a smooth trail and the teeth on the bucket made that work alot easier too.
