Ok fellas, I'm trying to establish my draw length and my wing span is 75 inches divided by 2.5=30 inches. Pretty easy right? Ok well where I get confused is with the other option which is by height. I'm 5'9 3/4 and it says my draw length should be between 27.5-28 inches. That's 2 inches. Big difference in draw length. Which should I go with?

U go with ur wing span divided by 2.5.
That is just too give u reference though. Some people measure one size but shoot a lil more or less usually if nut right on with in and 1"

either have a pro shop help you or post up pics at full draw...MOST people are drawing to long...shorter DL although lower fps, is usually easier to be consistant with, therefore more accurate

We are the same height and my DL is 29 in. I can easily shoot a 30 in draw length bow. I just felt better with 29 in.

Ok. Thanks guys for all the feed back. I was just making sure. I've got to go on to the shop and place an order for my Creed XS but the guy tells me mathews is backed up right now so it could be weeks before they ship the bow.

I also thought that most people shoot a DL that is too long. I know I did for years. My first bow was 28-29 adjustable, and right now 22 years later I have all of my bows anywhere from 26.5-27" depending on the maker. I shot 15+ deer with a 29" draw length bow. Don't know how I ever did that, but I did. All of my friends also started out way long with DL initially, at least an inch or more. Kinda weird. I always watch people at the range, and I am astounded at how many people still shoot the wrong DL, mostly to long.

I think they said 70% of people have too short of a DL...

Go with what works best. Forget the formulas.

Learn proper form and let the pin float and groups determine YOUR correct draw length.

Like Tfox said you have to figure out your perfect draw length.... the wing span is just a starting reference.... I started out at 27.5" went up to 28" for a while and finally to 28.5" which is where I feel the best...(over the course of a few bows and a few years) That CAN vary from bow to bow also... all 28.5" DL aren't going to be the same on different bows...

Did you actually read more than the title thread? I did not read all the pages but just about every post on the first page says that it is incorrect, the op had it backwards...

According to one of the best coaches out there, larry wise, he claims most are too short.

I see the same much of the time on the range and 3d shoots.

The truth is that most don't understand form as related to archery. A quick look at many shooters shoulders reveals a draw length that is too short. Problem is that most untrained individuals just look at anchors and that is but one indicator and can be greatly affected by bad form.

For the record, there are much better sources than hunters friends. Look up videos by larry wise or go to youtube and watch the performance archery videos by Allistair Whittingham.

    Read the thread JGD linked.
