Im looking at getting a apex convert single pin sight, Dovetail. My question is, is there any really advantage or disadvantage to owning a dovetail mount sight? Besides being able to remove the sight when storing the bow. My reason i was looking at a dovetail is thinking with the adjustments it would help me see the pin better cause i wear bifocals. Dont know if it would help or not. Thanks for any thoughts on this. Sent from my SM-N920P using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Being able to adjust sight to eye distance is an advantage so you can both see better with your vision issues and to have the peep correctly incircle the pin housing. Only problem is making sure the sight bar is properly tightened down. Sent from my LG-H631 using Tapatalk
Speaking only for myself, I never saw the advantage of a dovetail for hunting situations. IMO it just makes your bow setup heavier without providing any sort of real tangible benefit to the shooter at most hunting distances (40 yards and under).
Think about it like a pistol. The longer the sight radius the better the theoretical accuracy. If your front and rear sights are close together its hard to be really precise. The longer the distance the more precise it allows you to be. It also will exaggerate your pin float which can be uncomfortable for some.
Correct, but how much accuracy do you gain at sub-40 yards under hunting conditions? IMO not enough to make the extra cost and weight worth it.
Im not sure what you mean by exaggerate the pin float. Explain a bit please of you would. Sent from my SM-N920P using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
The farther away the object (sight pin in this case) is away from the focal point (your eye) the more perceptible (Exaggerated) movement can be seen. Same principle applies to your stabilizer, the farther out in front of the bow from the axis point (your grip) the more movement you will have. Does this explain it clearly enough? Ok. Yes i get it now. Thanks. Im kinda hopin it will help me see the pin better being farther out. Bad eye sight. Sent from my SM-N920P using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Perhaps you should look into a peep verifier from Specialty Archery it may help you. Good luck. Sent from my LG-H631 using Tapatalk
How does a verifier work in the field hunting in snow and drizzle will moister mess the verifier up and is it hard to keep clean in the field Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I really have no practical experience personally with the verifier but there are probably others on here that can address that. I was merely offering up a suggestion to solve the issue. Sent from my LG-H631 using Tapatalk
I bought an elite victory 39 that has a peep with a verifier in it and it clears things up for me but didn't want to put on my heli m hunting bow till I found out more. Seen it was mentioned thought I'd ask thanks Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Try it and give others your feedback I'm sure others would appreciate and gain knowledge. Sent from my LG-H631 using Tapatalk
100% agree. If it is a sight you're not shooting over 40 yards with regularly, the weight is especially not worth it. But if you use it in a lot of 3D tourneys or shoot long distances a lot, I think its a good option. And on a lot of them, you can adjust the bar to fine tune your peep sight to your sight. It's just another thing that 100% comes down to preference, budget, and what you're using it for.
Ive never used a dovetail but i found a good deal on one. I may try one out. Thanks for all the input. Sent from my SM-N920P using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
