Anyone into it? Is is worth it? What about this time of year? I just found some "Dove fields" about 20 mins from work, and got to thinkin' about it. Trying to keep my mind off of other crap. Do you NEED anything special for it? Can you walk around, or is it just a sit, and decoy deal? All the videos, and articles show people just sitting, and the doves come to them. So I'm guessing decoy... :/
Mojo dove deke and alot of shells, about as much fun as one can have. I've never hunted them this time of year, we hunt them in September and October.
Dove hunting is one of my favorite past times before I start bow hunting real hard. We killed 40 on opening day on public ground. It was a zoo, but a lot of fun. You just have to be careful. No shooting below a 45 degree angle. Our season closed in November, but I've got ducks to kill this time of year! Have fun and good luck!
Heck yea its worth it, and there are a right good amount of birds up there by you too. You dont have to have decoys, but a mojo and some powerline decoys do help. Cheaper than duck hunting, liberal bag limit, and plenty of good eatin. Just might make you realize how good or how bad of a shot you are. We go to Grays Creek NC every opening day and kill the mess out of them, four of us got our limit this year. Then we come back and hunt the fields at the house, killed a right good many out of there this year. I say go for it, heck if you want the info to the fields in Grays Creek I ll give it to ya, they are still open this time of the year.
Actually, I found some state fields just about 20 mins from my work. I was thinking of checking them out. But, I haven't seen but maybe 4 or 5 doves in the past week. GMMAT, if you read this, I also found an archery only place that isn't more than 20 mins from my house too. lol. I'm gonna piss the wife off this weekend. I told her I was "Done for the season...Probably" lol. I also booked a guided duck hunt, just for S's & G's. the other day. But pending other things going on, I may cancel that. :/
like the guys said earlier, bring lots of shells!!!! i think we were like 1 of 5 this fall. we just let em come in and the guys i was with can tell the way they fly what kind of bird they are, prob not that hard but im only a "part-time" shotgun hunter. end of the day we had a good mess of them... breasted em' out and wrapped bacon around them and threw em on the grill. few beers and everything tastes that much better!
