Our season opens September 1st. I'd honestly rather dove hunt than deer hunt. Not much better than an afternoon spent in a cut sunflower patch with a bunch of friends.
    Anyone else going?

My kids look forward to dove season as much as I do. They can take soda with them, we talk (unless there are birds coming in) and joke around. No worries about scent, wind direction, etc. Blowing through a box of shells is always fun too.:D

Ours starts Sept 1st as well. My dad and I have missed the last 2 opening mornings. The only 2 we have missed since I was 6 (17 years). This year we are hunting together opening morning............it can't get here soon enough

Aw yeah! My 2 girls are already asking me if we're going. They love being my retrievers!

And, I think they may have a few more to fetch this year w/ the new shotgun...

Jeff, which Benelli do you have?

Absolutely... wing shooting was my first passion. Combine that with living in Texas where dove hunting is a state holiday and I'm ready.

    Can't wait for this again...

Thanks man, he's awesome! He won't shed that much actually, not as much as one might think or not nearly as much as labs or other hunting breeds.

As for the doves, I marinate them in worcesterchire and soy sauce with a little bit of seasoning which depends on my mood that day. I don't separate the meat from the breast bone, but I cut a slit off the bone about 1/2" deep and and inch or two long. Then I take cream cheese that's softened up a bit and with a butter knife put it in the slit that I just made. That's definitely a jalapeno cut in 1/8-1/4" slices, put one slice right on top of the breast. Take one full piece of bacon (thick slice because the thin stuff burns before the breast cooks all the way through) and wrap wrap the whole breast. I just use one toothpick pushed from breast through breast and through the breast bone. Grill to perfection and >>>BAM<<< :D

Dove hunting is where I got my start, and I always love coming back to it.

Hopefully I can find some time in the coming weeks to get out there.

I love Dove hunting but not as much as deer hunting. We own a Dove hunting club and plant around 30 acres of sunflowers. It is a blast.......

I haven't been dove hunting since I was a teenager in Fla, and got a mossberg 500 that hasn't even been fired in two years - would be fun to get out there and sling some lead

I'll be sitting on one of my fences by the pond on the evening of Sept 1st. I can't make the morning hunt due to work. I'll have my Pedersoli double 12 and a large jug of sweet tea. my wife will have her Mossberg 500 and a large Dr. Pepper.
