Done that a few times, but as below.. Done this one 3 times, and it was sort of cool... Better story, when buddies tell it, but we shot a 6pt buck one night (farm destruction permit), and aforementioned buddy starts to gut him, he comes back to life, with 2 bullets in his head mind you, and a punctured diaphragm, and I put him back down, flip him over a couple times, get a good hold on him, and finally break his neck, and suddenly the fight is over. Me 6' 225# pretty fit at the time, him 165-170# yearling buck with smallish 6pt rack that the farmer wanted us to shoot. Even with 2 bullets (.22 Mag and .243 in his head, and a knife having been introduced to his diaphragm, he put up a pretty good fight, but in the end, I was VICTORIOUS!!! Make that a healthy deer without a ruptured diaphragm, and the mild brain injury, and I ain't playing that game!!!
I know a guy who shot a buck with a bow. The deer was on the ground and he thought it was dead. He went to pick his head up by the horns and the deer got up and tried to stick him with his horns. He snapped the deers neck by twisting his head around farther than it was able twist. I also know another guy who saw a deer stuck in a fence on his way to work.. and went and stabbed it with a knife.. took it to work and skinned it out back, lol... My goal this year is to get one with a bow.. Maybe next year Ill go bare nuckle against a deer haha..
you show me a DNR Officer that would say something and I will show you a DNR Officer that will be getting a lot of hate mail lol I feel like I could do this... However I am VERY scared of hights... This is why my treestand is only 10 feet off the ground and even then I dont really like it... So jumping out of it would be pretty nuts... I just need an awesome ghillie suite and do it from the ground.... Gosh I cant wait to get this on video... I will be the next Youtube Hit!!!!
Man Rule #4568 NEVER mess with an ODNR officer. They have the power to end your hunting career in a matter of seconds.
Talking to a DNR Officer after a "Rambo Hunter" Kill DNR Officer: "So you went with the throat shot huh?" Rambo Hunter: "Yeah I kinda jerked the shot... Buck Fever I guess." DNR Officer: "That is a pretty big gash there....." Rambo Hunter: "I shoot Rage...." DNR Officer: "How do you explain the buck's black eye?..." Rambo Hunter: "....... ...." If OJ can get away with murder, I can get away with being awesome!
Please show us where you have found that any state DNR has a law provisioned against that type of hunt. BY the way if you read the DNR laws and take it for what it says atleast in ILLINOIS alot of people would be breaking the law everytime they shot a deer with their bow. "Legal Archery Equipment A long, recurve, or compound bow with a minimum pull of 40 pounds at some point within a 28-inch draw. Minimum arrow length is 20 inches, and broadheads must be used. Broadheads may have fixed or expandable cutting surfaces, but they must have a minimum" This is out of the 2011 digest
Where does it say you can use a knife? And what are you saying is illegal? I read that as, bowhunters have AT LEAST 28 inches to achieve 40 pounds of draw, minimum.
Exactly so you have 28" to achieve 40lbs of draw wght. so what if you are only drawing 27.5" or less but still pulling 60 plus pounds. Now to answer the knife question where does it say that you can't? I am not by any means saying that I think it would be ok to do it. But it does'nt state anywhere in our DNR digest that you can not do that. And as far as being unethical I would have to disagree we as bowhunters talk about up close and personal but yet most osf us are up in a tree above the deer and use a bow that we can posibly shoot out to longer distances. using a knife would be primitive and definetly talk a bit more skill to ambush the animal then using a gun or a bow.
So you accomplished 40lbs before the minimum 28". Your good. If it takes you 32" to reach 40lbs...then your illegal. But it doesnt say that you can. So its illegal. Also known as poaching. It doesnt say i cant use blow guns, or hatchets, or a 2x4. Because it only states what you MAY use. Yes, it would. And?
So what if you were lost out in the woods and you killed a deer by ambushing it and cutting its throat with a knife out of season.....Think about it....really illegal...
That statement has no place in our argument. Were not talking about being lost in the wilderness. Were talking about over the top rednecks jumping out of trees onto deer because its "cool" and "hard". Weak son.
"So you accomplished 40lbs before the minimum 28". Your good. If it takes you 32" to reach 40lbs...then your illegal." So a young hunter who can only draw 40lbs. at a 26.5" draw is now illegal My wife has a 26.5" draw and shoots 40lbs. so the DNR officer I know said " technically she is illegal while hunting" However it is up to the officer that is there. I understand your point completely BUT try not to sound like such a smart azz while typing responses this is ment to be a conversation not a pizzing match. Laws are set to help keep the honest honest and they should not have to write a law for everything that you can not use to hunt with. But from a legal stand point if it is not written some dumb azz can get away with it. By the way our digest does have a section on blow guns being illegal lmao as stupid as it is once someone does something that dumb they have to write it into a law in the digest.
way out of context from the original post And I really dont think if you were lost and starving that they would be worried about arresting you for killing any animal for food to survive.
If im reading it correctly, the officer is wrong. He is not illegal. He accomplished 40lbs BEFORE 28", so hes fine. Thats just how i interpret it. Not a pissing match at all, just a good arguement
