While running a trail marathon Saturday morning through one of the local state parks, I came across a fresh scrape right in the middle of the single track trail. Instinctively, I immediately turned to the lady behind me and told her "Don't step in that scrape!" as if I would be hunting that location later that evening. She just gave me a puzzled look, and then proceeded to step right in the middle of it. That's all.
Thats funny. I can imagine the look on her face. Well, you're a hunter !! I ran a marathon this week, actually. I went from the pizza shop, to the gas station, to the ice cream store...phew, I was beat.
Maybe it was a mock scrape. Did you check the trees over head for a bowhunter? Maybe someone was out hunting marathon runners!
I used to find scrapes all the time when I ran cross country in high school. The courses were typically in suburban woodlots that held lots of deer.
First thing I thought of too. Me and my friend on the team who is a big hunter too actually ran a race close by for the most part and were amazed at how much deer sign there was. Literally rubs and scrapes EVERYWHERE. Lol by the end of it we were wondering if hunting was allowed outside that high school football field.
