Saw this getting shared on Facebook this morning. Interesting read for the tin foil hat folks http://higginsoutdoors.com/with-idnr-freedoms-are-not-free/
"I will end on this note; If you hear that I was cited for a game law violation, don’t believe it. I was set up or more likely just falsely accused. If you hear a deer with CWD was found in my area, don’t believe it. It was planted there. And if you hear I have disappeared or died under mysterious circumstances, please send the FBI to One Natural Resources way, Springfield, Illinois." Wasn't a bad little rant the guy had until this last paragraph. Of course I'd like to hear the DNR's response to this and get their side of the story.
I have no doubt that the IDNR and government within this great state is targeting Mr. Higgins for his outspoken criticism of their performance. That part certainly doesn't surprise me and anyone who lives in IL should be outraged over the way he's been treated. However I do find it to be a bit of a stretch to insinuate the IDNR may actually have him killed because he doesn't like their management of CWD plans. Also, I find it ironic that he complains about the destruction and poor management of the IL deer herd yet had the opportunity to harvest not one but two 200 inch deer in a single season. Seems a bit ironic to me.
Don's beliefs about the Illinois deer management problems were echoed by many Illinois residents who were members of the former QDMA web forum. The last paragraph's paranoiac edge is forgivable if the rest of it is accurate. Others have felt an unrelated professional sting after criticism of governmental agencies, even on the national stage. I'll leave it at that.
I really like Don..."Build it and they will come"...he's an expert at habitat manipulation and then setting up on the edges and shooting what he has attracted. It does appear that he's gone adrift as of late, but it's entertaining and I come to social media to be entertained, lol.
Im glad to just walk into the deer woods and hunt. I try to forget all the negatives and focus on the freedom of the cool, fall woods. "It ain't that serious".
Friend of mine has a theory that's interesting. He believe Don knows something is coming down the pipe towards him and he's trying to head it off. Certainly plausible but who knows for sure.
It seems like he is always operating on the edge of "legal". Always pushing the limits. My guess would be that there is a lot more to this story.
