Acceptable? Yes, in today's society it is acceptable. It may not be acceptable to me, but it's acceptable from society's point of view. My question is: Is it truly "normal"?

And like we have been arguing...normal is a mixture of what is accepted and believed in society. Something that is not a theory...something that actually happens on an everyday basis.

I think its normal to kill deer and eat them. Alot of people do not. Some of society actually thinks that action is a criminal and deranged action. But you and I can call it normal.

Homosexuality is something I dont practice. But Dan and Hooker may be gay. The fact that it is acceptable and common behavior in todays society makes that normal.

Unlike pedophiles, rapists, beastiallity, slavory and murder. These would be abnornormal behaviors. Not. Normal.

I dont think I can make it any more clear than that from my perspective.

No Mark, there wasn't one. You just want to believe there is one. So, I ask you to prove to me where I said anything bigoted and I'll prove you wrong. Until you can point it out directly, quit playing your childish games.

Unknowingly. The difference in a 17 year old a day before her 18th birthday and a girl who turned 18 six hours previous is nill...but because of written law, the code of ethics and the basis of western society, there is a LEGAL difference.

(This is why there are consent laws in some states ;) )

Good reply. My definition of normal may vary a little, but I can accept yours. :tu:

THIS is the debate I've happily been awaiting!

Although on one hand some of the comments make me want to puke. The fact that some of these statements are what you people believe is really saddening. And then you go jump all over one guy because he uses a slightly offensive term in response to your utterly pathetic statements that total degrade and treat an entire population of people like they are worthless pond scum. Come on.

Some good posts by Bret, Dan, Germ, Hooker & Siman.

Actually our prisons are filled with a heck of a lot more "normal" people than gay men. Our streets and prisons are not filled with gay pedophiles and gay men that prey on little boys.

As for the gay men and women that prey on little boys/girls...it is about psychology. Many people have sexual fetishes and many of those fetishes manifest during our teenage years. So for a gay teen who is told that it is a sin to have gay sex....guess what they secretly fantasize about as they age? Gay sex with men and teenage boys (because that is when they began having those feelings are they were verbally/physically/society beaten out of them). Same with teenagers who discover a pair of womens panties at their friends house and are scolded when they are found holding them in their hand. Guess what they go on to fantasize about as they get older-----womens panties. And so on and so on. It is about taboo, about secrecy. And those things heighten some peoples sexual feelings.

I suppose that's directed in part or in whole at me. Sorry, but I don't consider the use of the word even slightly offensive. I'm not a part of the thin-skinned, politically correct crowd. I just don't really care for being referred to as a "retard".

Using the "r" word while defending homosexuals is the epitome of hypocrisy. To offend an entire group of people to defend another is laughable at best. I am more accepting of gays than I was 10 years ago, but I will never appreciate the use of the "r" word. I would think that anyone with a social conscious would detest its use.

Dan, just because I refuse to lead you to your own bias does not make that a childish game. However, your reaction to not directing the conversation the way you want it to go does reek of immaturity. I'm done with this.

My niece is a very special person. If that makes me "too sensitive" to think poorly of your use of a very derogatory term, so be it. I think it makes me normal.

    I'm sure she is.

So is my cousin. I also call him a "retard" all the time when he does goofy stuff. He finds it funny. But then again, our family does not shelter him and taught him to not be insecure of his disease.

    But whatever.

You should have added a :dan: after that for effect.

I got busy for a while and I never did reply to you. Sorry about that. I understand getting caught up in the moment. It's not a problem at all.

I assume you are referring to me calling hooker out for calling someone a retard. First, I said it is like calling someone a *** after he called someone a retard. Retard is no less offensive than any other slur I can come up with.
