So I am always on my wife about not letting the kids mess with her iPhone (only couple months old) for fear of it getting dropped and broken etc....... So last night she asks me to put a new screen protector on it for her, I take off her cover and am cleaning the phone before placing the screen protector and be damned if I didn't drop it. Now I was sitting down and the phone only fell maybe 2 ft but now the screen is just black. Son of a..... She can recieve a call but other than that it appears to be worthless. Pretty amazed the such a short drop rendered the phone useless. Anyway ANOTHER new one on the way today. DANG IT

Anyone think it is possible to have fixed, or even woth looking into. Figure if it could be fixed relatively inexpensively, it might be worth it to have on hand as a back up should either one of us need it.

If you got insurance on it from the provider, get it fixed (cheaper). If you didn't, get an estimate and see what they say.

If you have an Apple store near you I would have them Diagnose it first but you can buy the parts on Ebay for about $40 and its not to hard to do just small screws and time consuming. Otherwise there are alot of guys that do the repairs and like I said for about $80 and depending on what Iphone it is resale is at min $200 bucks

Take it in to get looked at and see if you can get it fixed but usually it is expensive for a fix when you can get a brand new one for maybe a little more. I would also get a good case (Otterbox) that way you can hand it off to the kids (and husband  ) and not worry about them dropping it and breaking.

Luckily her line was barely due for an upgrade as of last week so it only cost me $30 to get her a new one. $80 doesn't sound too bad to get it fixed, I will look into that, certainly would be nice to have it stashed away should we break another one, and cheaper than buying a new one should it happen.

Oly, she has an Otterbox I had it out of the case to clean the phone, and the kids have an iPad as well as an old iPhone 3 that they get to play games on. Which is why I get irked when she lets them use her new phone.

I was mostly amazed that such a short fall screwed up the phone.

Just landed on the right spot to damage the LCD sounds like I know usually the digitizer just cracks and the LCD is fine. Tough luck on this one. If your handy they are not hard to fix.

Okay that makes sense. Im with you then, not sure why the iPad and old iPhone are not sufficient for them to play with.

But you should really be more careful :poke:

Eek! That scares me! Right now I am trying to decide between the Galaxy S4 and iphone. I am going on my 4th year of my old galaxy and has dropped it so many times - without a case. If an iphone is that easy to break...I am not sure if that is a good option for me. I am a total and complete clutz!

The S4 is easy to break too. My sister dropped hers from like 3 feet and it cracked, then the same day she dropped it again and stepped on it with a cleat. This was all after she got it 6 hours earlier
