Well, here is something I'd never considered before. Even being we have a truck with everything mentioned in the title. Driving down a small 2 lane highway today as it passes through a small town. On this lil stretch speed limit goes from 55 - 50 - 40 in fairly short distance. Right about where this speed reduction occurs I see a truck in the oncoming lane come to an abrupt stop as I approach. As I am about to pass, a woman is exiting the truck clearly distraught. I begin to slow as I notice a dog in the middle of the road. I pull over and come to a stop. Run out to the dog and get to him the same time she does. Initially I assume she hit the dog. But I then realize it is her dog, as she is calling it by name and very upset. I asked "Did he come out of the back?" To which she replied, "I didn't think he could get out the window" I didn't ask further questions. She was trying to get a response from her Sammy and that wasn't going to happen. I told her I was sorry but he was gone and we needed to get him off the road, traffic was wizzing both sides of us. I carried him to the back seat of her truck and got him on a blanket. I then noticed the covered bed and opened rear sliding window. As I pulled her truck out of the road I noticed all other windows were closed. So Sammy, a very handsome red? Standard Poodle ( he was a pretty big boy, about the size of my female lab) had got himself thru that small back window, found himself out on the tonneau cover, and before the young lady could react her pet was lost. It was NOT a pretty scene. So in theme with Jasons (Heckler) post a bit of a warning to dog owners. I ride around with that lil window open often and while my Stella would never try it I could see our other lil **** giving it a go.... but I've never once even thought of it and that cover kinda leaves em no where to end up I suppose. Anyway... something to consider. Sad way to lose a pet / friend.
Poor dog. That’s a terrible way for the lady to learn the lesson. I’m glad you were there to help her though.
