City ordinances can drive me nuts. Last year, our little town (14,000) made it illegal to have basketball goals on the edge of your yard where the kids could use the street as the court... Now I get people can't do it on main thoroughfares, but there's not a ton of houses on those anyway. Most of the residences here are on side streets. I own the whole freakin' block at the end of a three-street cul-de-sac and still got a warning about it.

Went to a city council meeting with pictures, letters from neighbors, had both my boys testify in front of the group... the whole shebang. Common sense gets thrown out the window. I even cited statistics about obesity and the cultural desire to get kids away from video games... at least that's what we tell ourselves. But with ordinances like this, our actions are speaking louder than our words. No luck. It's maddening.

I just built a house in a neighborhood and found one a few house down. This was the first time learning about these. Seems like a great idea and with a little common sense applied (lacking these days) I don't see a reason for unnecessary fees/restrictions. I guess they argue that it costs them time and manpower to inspect and report them though. I see it from both sides (to an extent) but I agree .gov is getting out of control.

These were beginning to pop up across Birmingham when I left and have noticed several across Anchorage... I don't think they are regulated here.

The scenario you described is ridiculous.

Pretty sweet idea hooker, I'd never heard of an LFL until reading this thread. It makes me wanna build one in rural Kansas.

That being said I think your city government could care less how these are regulated and simply saw a chance to generate some revenue.

Milwaukee and the burbs are a different world. Nothing surprises me from there.
