Does the NFL have the right to enforce marijuana usage policies for players in CO?

I still say it doesn't. You are under a contract which forbids you from doing legal activities. If you don't like it, you have the right to go elsewhere. Just as if you don't like the laws in your state, you have the right to move elsewhere.

My point/stance is the NFL does not really care about the health of it's athletes. Therefore, being that marijuana is a lot safer than alcohol, repeated pain killer injections, under the counter medications many of the players are on each year, and many other substances, it should be legal to use in places that have made it legal.

Didn't we have a similar thread about Toby Keith banning concealed carry in his restaurant? How is it ok for Toby Keith to decide not to allow concealed carry on premise even though it's legal provided the person carrying is following the law but it's not ok for the NFL to have marijuana in their list of banned substances? So they can only have it in their system during home games? Teams travel, and the purpose is not to be under the influence or have it in their system when they are doing their job. You couldn't possibly work this into a contract based on locality of a team. The NFL doesn't have different substance abuse lists based on state or team. Even though contracts are completely individual, there are still top level NFL policies.

I understand your point. But, due to the contract being between two private parties, neither has to sign if they don't want and can walk away. If they do, then it means they agree to the contents and will abide, or face consequences.

Law states that private companies have the right to refuse people to carry. Depending upon state law, if you don't leave when asked, you could face legal prosecution such as trespassing, etc. The same applies to list of banned substances for an employer, or other contract items such as can't do certain actions, etc. These have been held up in court.

Is a tax exempt business really private?

The NFL is a private governing body of individual team owners, etc. If a rule they decide to implement says no drug use, then the owners of said teams have the right to disagree to it and walk away and not be a part of the NFL.

Not really any different than than US Olympics, High school sports, etc. now is it? ;)

Yeah, that's exactly my point. I was using that as part of my argument, meaning, the NFL can ban whatever substance they want regardless of team, player, or state the team resides in.

And for what reason would they ban a legal substance that is much safer than many of the products it's employees currently, legally, use?

I think I have found out the reason.......players will be living in a van down by the river and encouraging young folks to do likewise if they choose to use marijuana. Below is what they will be like at age 40.....

PR? Sponsorship? As you can tell from this board and the fact that it is still illegal in most places, weed is still viewed as a real danger.

Very true, but it doesn't take away the fact that they can ban it. I think the point being made by people is that this revolves more around the fact that they have a legal right to ban whatever substances they want, regardless if it's actually a danger or not.

    Yep, for sure.

I bet most of the players who leave permanently or periodically after head trauma look into Cannabis as a alternate for the AMAZING DRUGS PROFESSIONAL DOCTORS give them.......Pills should be banned and THC should be introduced
