I just read a lot of the information from the Scent-Lok lawsuit. Several experts in the active carbon field seemed to disprove most statements made about Scen-Lok. There is only about 4.5 ounces of carbon in the garments. Not enough to hold much scent at all. They said that human scent could easily pass around the small amount of carbon. The carbon would quickly fill and that regeneration in a clothes dryer was not possible. None of that sounds very promising to me. Trying to convince me that Scent-Lok is effective in scent control would be like trying to convince me that the only way to be healthy is to be a vegetarian. Again, I do have some of their products, but not for scent control. But I knew that when I bought it. A lot of good information on the internet about the lawsuit and the expert testimony used. Use it if it gives you confidence. I will continue to put my faith in my lucky rabbits foot. And playing the wind and thermals ofcourse.
You guys are appraoching the scent thing all wrong fellas. This is how I roll up into the woods! Spray myself down real well with some Buck Bomb and the respirator and Im golden. I cant help with Jasons chilli experiment though
i dont think i ever said you shouldnt play the wind. the only thing i ever said is that it works. i take great caution in making sure my clothes are scent free as much as possible and not contaminated. i also do a lot of work around the farm i hunt so the deer might know my smell and not see me as a threat. the steps i take in hunting make me see more deer. i see more deer that the other 2 guys who also hunt the farm. one guy lives their and the other also does alot of work their. they dont use scent lok. so please tell me who it is possible to see more deer shoot more deer and not get scented as much while having the suit on. and alls you have to do is type in how far can deer smell in google to read up on it. so far most articles i read said a few hundred yard to 425. i know that on some of the bottles of scent killer they show a pic on the back showing scent being dissipated at 400 yard also. and i hope i dont smell like steak when going out into the field
I was the only guy on the property I hunted last year that took a deer with a bow. The other big bowhunter always wears Scent Lok and I saw more deer. Does this mean that non Scent Lok works better?
You East Coast guys will drench yourself with Buck Bomb but can't eat Chili with an Old School WI brew P.S. did you kill that dandy or was it the Buck Bomb? Hahaha, nice to see you back on the forums
Pretty good chance that the other guys dont work as hard at trying to stay scent-free and playing the wind. So, the example you use has little or no relevance. I could wear a clown suit and see more deer than some guys. My success would not have anything to do with what I was wearing. I understand that you like Scent-Lok and are a believer. I am going with the science and my experience which is far removed from the fantasy world that Scent-Lok has created. There is just no solid evidence that has ever been produced to give any creed to its effectiveness. But they are definitely laughing all the way to the bank.
Uh what??? It didn't put words in your mouth....what I did is bring up a point that you don't seem to have an answer for so now you are back pedaling, the inablility to reactivate carbon in clothing is the reason that the military chemical suits are DISPOSABLE...once the carbon has absorbed up it's capacity it's no good anymore....JUST LIKE THE SCENT LOCK SUITS.
I think another thing people overlook about the scent lok/scentblocker suits is that they are expensive and weather or not the scent controll works usually they are a much higher quality construction. The suit fit way bbetter and tighter ,they have more pockets, more zipper points, are extreemly quiet, long lasting material. And all this is another reason you pay the extra money. So your not just getting a suit that "doesn't control your scent" your getting all of the above features that are also very important when out hunting. Cheep camo sucks to hunt in and that's why its cheep.
raceway if your the only guy to shoot a deer off the property then i would have to say that more than likely they arent into hunting to much.(arent in the field or scout) the season is kinda long. they should of had more than enough time to shoot a deer. fletch the other two guys play the wind all the time and descent with a shower and spray. so i guess that theory doesnt work. cooter i would like to see an actual expert say what it would take to reactive. i read the same article you did and he said it would take 600 degree not 1400. so please at least quote the guy right and decides now i have never said any thing about reactivating so there is now back peddling from some guy how doesnt know jack. dont you think the military's and DISPOSABLE is because there would be no way to reactivate them in the field and because they would be contaminated this is kinda funny that you guy's are still in here trying to tell me that it doent work when everytime i got out in the field i see that it does. that must really piss you guys off. see more deer shoot more deer that all i got to say.
You gotta ask yourself, why Scent-Lok with huge amounts of cash, and their reputation at stake, still got thier butt whipped in court.
i have read some of the case. i believe the case was based apon 100% of human odor which i do not recall anyone saying that it take away 100% of human odor or have ever read a sign claiming that.
I have a scent lok suit with a two pocket jacket and two pocket pants. Any camo can be purchased with minimal features through those with full features regardless if it has scent blocking carbon technology.
The other main Bowhunter has hunted the property for nearly 20 years and has taken bucks as large as 168". He lives 1/4 mile away and watches over the property regularly. Last year was the worst season for seeing deer that he can remember due to the late harvest and the first season he has never shot a deer with his bow. He also hunted at least 20 days last season that I remember him being there, I even told him where I was seeing the deer on the property. I had several nights that the wind was wrong and deer smelled me when they caught wind, the same happened to him in his Scent Lok
I guess that their scientific claims weren't as the claimed and guys in the lawsuits were tired of getting hosed on clothing that wasn't effective and proven so in the court of law, hahahaha. Judge handing down his verdict and Scent Lok getting a beat down. Deer still alive because his nose couldn't be fooled wondering when the next Scent Lok hunter will arrive into his domain. Consumers across America after realizing they were had by bogus advertising claims from Scent Lok. The next avenue to take this discussion.
Obviously their claims of effectiveness were misleading or there would not have been a successful judgement against them. I believe they claimed that it eliminated human odor and were proven wrong. I dont care if someone likes using it and it brings them confidence. Go for it, and enjoy. But it simply can not do what it was designed to do. At least not for any extended period of time. Simple as that. I killed a good buck one evening after having late lunch in a greasy spoon bar that was full of smokers. Went straight out to the tree and stuck a nice 8 pt. Does that prove that grease and cigarette smoke are good cover scent? Obviously not. The deer I have seen and killed while wearing Scent-Lok are also no indication of its effectiveness of scent control. That's all I am trying to say. You cant use deer sightings as any indication of its effectiveness becasue you have no idea what the outcome would have been without Scent-Lok. Likely the wind currents were the only determining factor. I dont begrudge anyone from using it. Confidence is as important as any tool you have in the bag. If it brings you confidence, great, use it. I just argue that the science of carbon just does not support the product.
your such a hater dude. find me a non scent loc/ blocker suit as advanced as they are and i will shut up. or let me guess all of the scent based suits are all gimmic whether its for scent control or not
What is your opinion of advanced???? There are plenty of high tech garments out there without scent control. I prefer basic clothing myself, my Ultimate Camo pants have two main pockets and two leg pockets and the jackets have two pockets. Considering how much contraband my pack holds I hardly see the need for a lot of pockets. I also have some older Gore Tex hunting clothing and some insulated hunting clothing that I have hunted in below zero conditions with. I'm finding it a little comical that we are now shifting away from the superior scent eliminating magic and focusing on the superior construction and features of this wonder garment.
im finding it comical that no mater which direction i take towards these products you still hate them. basically if you were given a suit you would hate it just because.
