Exactly. Even though the carbon can absorb odor when first produced. It does have a shelf life. You have to realize that as soon as the carbon was produced it started to absorb odors. During manufacturing, shipping, etc. Many times, you buy the garment off a rack in the store. By now, the carbons effectiveness must surely be severely compromised. I think it has been proven that to reactivate the carbon it would take temperatures far in excess of anything that the garment would survive. In my opinion, most scentlok clothing is useless far before it is ever purchased. The good experinces that some users have is because of their attention to scent control and getting lucky with thermals. Just my spin on this.

That's Great BTGuy did I not put that in my post if you like it wear it, if you believe in it wear it.. and (I also believe scent loc helps).. It does not do what I have personally seen Ozonics do and I also have used both.. and still have some scent loc i take with me hunting.. Why run down one way of doing something because it is not what YOU want to use... I could care less if you ever use a Ozonics machine and only use what you believe in which is scent loc, because if it works for you. Awesome great I hope you kill so many Booners you run out of room in your house to hang them. But dont run down a system that works and you have not tried and might turn someone who is thinking about useing when you have not used it your self..That is all I am trying to say... Again I hate this topic because again it is like politics to many oppions..
I would love to try the Ozonics but it is a little pricey at this point. I have had deer downwind wearing Scent Lok and been busted before and then have not been busted wearing non Scent Lok, maybe a victim of thermals. After watching Ground Zero the Ozonics has my interest peaked and I know that you guys are stand up dudes. If you guys ever get a new model I will gladly test your old one
You can watch all the videos on Ozonic's website that explains exactly how to watch them. The best one is the instructional video. It will answer all your questions about how to use them. www.ozonicshunting.com Swirling winds are a huge pain for-sure. The difference between Ozonic's and the others is that the ozone gas that you are pushing into your scent stream is shifting with the wind and killing odor the entire time. When we have been busted using the original ozonic's was in a super-strong wind or a dead wind when everything is just falling / floating in wind currents. The new unit and it's mounting capabilities will solve a big part of this. How much? Not 100% certain yet as I've not had a chance to hunt with the HR-200 yet (and cameraman). I've been using the HR-200 in the field filming velvet footage. The other night I had a 6-1/2 year old, 4-1/2 year old, and 3-1/2 year old bucks standing downwind with 5 or 6 does at about 50 yards. A doe busted me moving (she was 20 yards from me and I had to re-position to film the bucks). She caught me moving 3 times, finally enough. She ran snorting 2 or 3 times. She ran straight downwind and was standing with the big 6-1/2 year old buck I call "Tank". At the same time, the doe and Tank lifted their nose to take in a big wiff of that ozone. Knowing that I wasn't a threat (because they weren't smelling human), they continued feeding. All caught on-camera. This is when I can just show instead of talk. Seems to sell people when they realize I'm actually out there doing this stuff and not just writing about it online!
Also, forgot to mention the "dog" comment. The technology doesn't exist for us to be able to really determine exactly how well a deer can smell. I've talked to a number of biologists on this topic and it pretty much comes down to a single arguement. Deer can smell nearly as well or better than a K9. If we can come to the conclusion that a bloodhound or drug dog is capable of smelling more than a whitetail, then that's the baseline to use for testing because we have trained them to tell us what they are smelling. Ozonic's beat a drug and bomb sniffing dog. Do I need to say more? Personally I believe a whitetail similar scent detection capabilities as a K9. I've personally watched them follow my trails a HUNDRED TIMES after spraying down, wearing Scent-lok, rubber boots, and spending about $100/week on crap that didn't make a difference. Heck - it took me 3 years to try Ozonic's when a friend of mine SWORE by them. I figured it was just another gimmick. Glad I was wrong!
If I keep defending Scent-Lok on this thread while reading others posts about Ozone technology, I might (just might) look into it a bit more seriously, as I do like options. Sorry for coming off harsh, it just seems no one ever gives the minority person (me) a legitimate chance when so many use other products and watched videos of hard proof that ozone is supposedly better.
I had the same attitude as you back when I was a beginner...I have learned much since then and have enjoyed much more success since wising up.
far from a beginner son. why dont you come look at my trophy room. my success has gone up since i have become more aggressive.
Didn't say you were a beginner...just said I tried hunting without paying attention to the wind at one time too when I was a beginner thinking that carbon suits might actually hide my scent. Tell you what...give ONE name of a highly accomplished, well known deer hunter who doesn't pay attention to wind direction. Why do you think the "pros" on tv ALWAYS set up down wind of where they expect deer to be even though they are wearing the carbon suits that were provided by their sponsers??? It would be no different if you polled the most successfull hunters on this site. There are times that one can get away with it...ussually due to thermals...but a MATURE animal is going to bust you more often than not if you don't stay down wind of them. If a hunter is not interested in hunting mature animals...then by all means..."F the wind' as you say
they all pay attention to the wind and for some reason they all wear scent lok. hmmm. must be a gimmick when they say i love my scent lok because that deer came down wind and never smelled me. and dont you think your taking it a little to personal with the MR. my **** dont stink comment. just because you personally dont think it works doesnt mean you need to talk to people in that manner.. and yes it is proven that carbon work or is that just what they tell the military so they buy up carbon suits to stop the chemicals from rotting there skin off, from mustard gas and ect. fact. carbon, silver, and other materials stop odor and its still kinda funny that some of you try telling us it doesnt work when time and time again we see that it does. kinda like if you tell a lie long enough it becomes the truth. and the other thing is NO ONE has ever said it takes 100% of your scent away but it does bring you scent down to a manageable level as far as your dog comment goes........
Headstrong, I'm not even sure who you are talking to but aren't military carbon suits used only ONE time since the carbon CANNOT be reactivated unless it reaches like 1400 degrees???
If it is not 100% effective then the deer still smell you right? Do deer rely on a danger percentage meter or do they bolt when they get a hint of a predator? By the way, the real men of genious thing was a joking reply to poke fun for the amount of money and self confidence people invest into a product with limited effect. If you all want to spend the cash feel free
I have been winded while using every scent precaution AND wearing Scent-Lok. So according to your reasoning, I could make a statement that it is a FACT that it does not work. I think I'll just go with that. Never mind all the science that seems to back the same conclusion. I have bought some just because I liked the camo and garment design, but the scent elimination properties were probably long gone before it ever left the store.
cooter you might want to look up what the military uses for the chemical suit then come talk to me... and i dont think i said anything about reactivating anything so far so please dont put words in my mouth. racewayking i hope you dont use spay or wash your clothes or take a shower before you go out because none of that is 100% either. and yes studies do show that deer do have a built in meter. they can smell you up to 400 yards away in certain circumstances the more they smell you the more they think you might be a danger to them. thats why people try to descent as much as possible. fletch ist to bad that you got dear winding you at least you have feed back and use the product unlike some people here.
So the Carbon technology used by the Military is the same that Scent Lok uses? I do shower, use mouth sprays or chlorophyll, wash my camo after every hunt and spray down my boots Headstrong. My main course of action is understanding the wind and thermals in relation to where I will hunt, as stated I have used Scent Lok and been busted. I have more success planning my hunts on wind and thermals than relying on overstated gimmicks. Science is nothing but theory based on acceptance and Scent Lok's success holds as much water as Global Warming in my world. Please send links to the story showing that deer have a built in Scent detecting meter, 400 yards seems a little lacking considering I can smell a steak on the grill over a mile away when downwind of a Suburban grill
