The Rut is really starting to pick up here in Northern Indiana and it is supposed to rain this evening. In your experiance, will the rain slow or even bed a rutting buck?

The weather can play a factor in rut activity however, usually drastic weather changes such as extreme warm fronts are usually what have more of an effect on the rut. Rain does not necessarily have an actual effect on the rut but rather the deer movement during the rut. They may bed up a little longer, malinger around bedding areas during storms or usually move really well before and after small or somewhat significant storms. I have taken one of the biggest bucks to date during the rain and in mid rut a few years back.

I usually try and watch the weather and try to be out when the rain slow's or stops. Usually that is when the deer get up and move...either to feed or refresh scrapes and such. Hope this helps...Good Luck!!!

Weather has zero affect on rutting activity. We as hunters might see less deer because weather affects deer movement, but there is no less sex going on.

A little rain won't hurt. I too like to watch the weather to see if there will be a break in the rain or hunt the beginning and backside fronts. I wouldn't worry about it as long as the temps don't get too high or if it's pooring out. Nows the time to take advantage of any opportunities to be in the tree!
