Last season was my first season of hunting whitetail ever. I think after reading a few articles I may have destroyed my chances more than a few times of having successful hunts by over scenting me and my area I was hunting. I thought the more amount of scent the further away I could draw them from, From what I have been reading I probably sent out a red flag as to something wasn't right. I probably might as well jumped up and down and screamed for 3 hours instead of sat in my stand.

This year I plan on using no scents at all. The only thing I will use is Tinks Vanish.

Could to much scent hurt your hunt??

I would recommend using doe urine. I try to put a few drops of it on fallen logs around my stand. This past fall a nice buck came right in to where I had put some on the base of a tree. He is now in my freezer. lol

I had great luck with Border Crossings VS1 "deer herd in a stick" I used it on licking branches on my mock scrapes I made the scrapes on Sept 1 and the bucks started to visit and use them right away I ended up killing my buck at one of these locations !

I was using around half a freakin bottle of the stuff. lol I was using hunters specialties doe urine most of the time. It was in he spray bottle. I used it on my boots going in and the base of the tree my stand was in and on trees in the area. Now that I look back on it I realize it was when I started using it that I was seeing fewer deer.

Does anyone think that going scentless using only odor eliminating spray will work?

Going scentless could very well work, I myself always try to put some scent down(even if its very little). Along with using a good can call usually works for me.

I would say 95%-99% of the time most hunters would be better off not applying any scent at all.

I am strategically placing all of my stands near trails that I have been watching since last August. I hope using my Lil can, my grunt call and going scentless only, works well.

Those are the things you should count on to further your chances of success. Any "last ditch" or "magical" type of tactic in the deer woods is usually a failing tactic. Locate the deer, hunt them with the right wind, and kill them.

Well said, locate the deer and make sure the winds in your favor.

I have one trail that I believe a pretty large buck travels I will be placing a stand on either side so that I can hunt it no matter the wind direction. I have seen many doe head down the same path. Last year they were all out of range of my bow from where I didn't know the patterns of travel or the woods I was in. I have been blessed enough to now reside on the property and have been tracking these patterns since last August.

I use no scents at all except during rut I use Code Blue Doe Urine. It works great. I have three scent bombs with cotton balls in them and I hang them on trees around me with a little bit on the cotton balls. Hope that helps! I killed 6 deer last year with my biggest buck being claimed. The day I shot him I was using NO scents! Here are my kills from last year!
