If so, WHEN??? I was sitting in the stand overlooking a picked bean field this evening. The wind was blowing from the South 25 - 30 mph. Every time the winds died down I would rattle and grunt. At 4:30, 3 bucks came out of the woods on the far side of the bean field. I glassed them and two of them were definitely shooters. About 10 minutes later, a huge 11 pointer came out of the woods to the East. I could see him through the hedge row slowly making his way. I grunted a couple more times and he stuck his head through the headge row 20 yards out. After standing there for a couple of minutes, he backed out and started walking away. I grunted at him a couple more times and he stopped. I waited and waited. As he started away again, I figured I had to give it a try. I grunt wheezed and this buck took off like a rocket straight East! If he isn't the dominant buck in the area, I really need to meet the buck that is!!!!

So, once again I present the interrogatories: Does the grunt wheeze work? If so, when?

Snort wheeze. He must not be the dominant buck in the area or got his butt kicked recently. It will work if the buck is in the right mood.

yes it does! Peak peak rut, and the deer has to be the big boy in town. Unfortunatly for me the only place i have tried it was a doe only property, i figured "what do i have to lose?" lol
came runnin. he was deff the big guy though. a four point that was sneakin through some left over corn was GONE!

I've only had one come into it before, and scared off plenty more.

The one that answered was a 120" 9 pointer that was trying to circle downwind of my rattling about 100 yards away. I usually only use it as a last ditch effort if I cannot get a shooter buck to head my way.

A lot depends on how pressured your area is. If a deer has heard that noise 5 times this year, and it was a hunter 4 of the times, he will probably bolt. I have never heard a deer make this noise, so I don't dare try it myself.

Worked 1 time in the last 3 years. Just think how many guys have a primos buck roar, or mad growl call and wheeze at the deer everytime they see one. I actually have a buck roar, but only because I like the way it sounds for a long light grunt. I use my mouth any time I wheeze, and that has only been a handful of times in my life.

I usually only try a snort/wheeze as a last resort... For me, it usually gets their attention and may even turn them but they are on full alert at that point and when they don't see another deer usually they bug out.

Maybe if a person had a decoy out and tried it, it would work better.

I had a group of does that either winded me or some how saw me move or something... The does started to snort/wheeze and they were freaking out. The buck just looked over alertly and started walking over... I think he was checking to see if it was another deer....
