Do you believe that dip or chewing tobacco hurts your chances when hunting, giving away your scent. What do you guys think, because i usually dip when i hunt. Didnt know if it hurt me, because i do this...what you guys think?

yeah we are kinda close...i do some hunting in huron county, and erie county. Wakeman, Willard, and berlin heights.

Anyway, i need to control my dipping habit in the tree..but i get so bored sitting there..when i put a dip in, its like a switch goes off, and im looking around on a mission to see anything.haha its weird.

Ahhh about time this thread pops up ...lol

I Can't Cope without the Hagen, so no I don't think it hurts my chances, course I'm not a huge spitter either.

But there are a couple theories, those that chew don't think it hurts, those that don't chew say why would you chew in the woods...and those that quit chewing are a real PITA.. :)

Haha the power of chew. I quit almost a year ago but I sure would like one sometimes. Never chewed in the stand though.

This will be the first season in the last decade that I will not chew tobacco in the woods, or anywhere for that matter. Every hunting season I get the chew bug, and go from not chewing, to chewing Levi Garrett in the truck and sometimes on stand. Not this year...I hope. It has been 4 months or so since I chewed last!

    Jeff,
I've had on several occasions deer lick up the puddle of spit beneath my stand, and I've fed SWEET (Red Man/Levi Garrett) type chewing tobacco to deer at a friends farm and they LOVE the stuff!!!! I think CHEW at least is not a bother to them, and I tend to believe it DOES help with covering our breath a bit.

    See above.....

I knew one like you in College, but she was a busty blonde........:D.......and a fun one at that!!!!!

According to the Surgeon General, dipping will hurt you when you hunt, or any other activity for that matter.

No, I don't think the smell has any negative bearings whatsover. First I don't know if they associate the smell with danger to begin with. But even so, if they can smell the tobacco then it is most likely they have already smelled you as well (regardless of what you THINK you have done for scent control measures) and it a mute point by that time.

I used to chew for years and never saw any ill effects.

Yup. Very first time out bowhunting, I got out and threw out my chew. Next thing I know my buddy jumps my ass and tells me it's no big deal. That night, I had a buck and a doe smell the rungs on my ladder stand. Could have spit on their head. All this while spitting on the ground.

Camel Snus is about $6 a tin here. Anything that expensive should come with a one hitter.:p

Get on camel's mailing list, they send me free can coupons every couple weeks. I don't chew, but my buddy does and I flood him with them and he stocks up for hunting season.
