Is there anyone who doesn't use trail cameras? If not, why? Don't wanna know what you have? Can't afford one? etc...
I don't, never had the interest in them, never will. I like doing my own scouting on foot, taking my own pictures if need be. To me, there's nothing like seeing them in person! Remember the days when if you wanted to see a big ole buck in the woods that you actually had to be in the woods... I like those days!
no cameras for me. 2 reasons : 1. I hunt too far away to check them. 2. I hunt public land so they would most likely get stolen.
I don't have one, unless you count the 35mm POS I haven't put out in years. I want one, a digital but call me a procrastinator. I'll have one out next year, but that's what I said last year. :p
Me too! And every time I think I'm ready I spend the money on something else. This year its new Muck Woody Elites. Maybe next year!
Mine were all stolen in time. The other issue I had was seeing a great buck on cam and setting my heart on him but never seeing him in season for a shot.
I have some, but I didn't even put them out this year. Mostly because my hunting grounds are anywhere from 1.5-4 hours from my home, and I don't get the chance to check them like I want to. I'd likely use them if I lived anywhere close to where I hunt. I also don'e use them that frequently because I'm not willing to get into the areas I would need to so I could take pics of the bucks I'd likely be hunting. I can't see tromping in and out or on the outskirts of a bucks bedroom on a consistent basis unless I'm planning to try and kill him that day.
I never really believed in them until this year. Let me explain.... I thought it would screw up my hunting (for lack of better words). I mean...if I had this camera out in the woods and didn't have any buck pics then that may have made up my mind NOT to hunt that area when I really should have. I've always hunted certain spots because of either deer sign or the terrain. You become disappointed when you check that cam with no buck pics. Fast forward to this year. I decided to give them a shot...so I bought two. I've gotten some buck pics in some spots and none in others. I'll still hunt the other spots (no buck pics) because I have faith in my initial gut feeling. Until this year, I was always afraid to use cams for the reasons listed above but I'm not putting 100 faith in them.
I own one, but don't use it for "hunting" purposes. I stick it in the yard or neighbors yard to take pix, but I've never put it in a REAL hunting spot. I don't care to use that tool. No big deal.
I don't, mostly because the land I usually hunt is my family's land, we know what we have, and generally where they are. It becomes a matter of right place, right time more than anything. That, and with it being over 200 miles away, it would be a pain to check. We've talked about buying a couple, but can always find something "more important" to spend that kind of $$ on...
I have one. It broke. I'm like Rob. I've put off getting one since the last one. Money is usually the excuse, and although technically I can afford one, I have to set priorities at this point in my life as I have with many of my hunting purchases (or lack thereof). I think they're a neat gadget.
I have an older one with flash and I use it some, but I think it spooks the deer. I had it out earlier this summer and got a bunch of doe pics but decided to take it out well before season opened. I like to be surprised when I see him walk through!:p
Heck ya, I've got 4. I love em. I think they are almost as much fun as hunting. I keep them set up far from bedding areas, mostly on the same scrapes every year. It's more fun than opening a present every time I check them.I don't use them as a scouting tool as I wont intrude anywhere I might consider hunting, and get 90% or more night pictures once the velvet is gone. I can't for the life of me understand why any hunter wouldn't enjoy looking at pictures of the deer they have in the area.
