Fellas, I have a brake issue and I am not sure what it is, so I need your help.

Last night while gong home my pedal got very still and my red brake light came on (the one with the ! and P in) but the ABS light never did. I almost went through my garage door.

This morning it was the same thing. Very stiff pedal and took long distances to stop. There was 1 point where the brake light turned off and the brakes were fine, but after that 1 instance it was back to light on and stiff pedal.

It has plenty of fluid, no fluid marks that noticed on the ground.

The rear brake line was replaced 2 months ago.

    Any ideas?

I hope to have this fixed by Friday night since season starts Saturday.

I first want to say that I am no mechanic, and I may be totally wrong. It sounds to me like it might be the master cylinder. Here's why I think this, I was driving down the interstate one day and had to stop suddenly. When I went to hit the brakes the pedal did hardly anything and it took me longer then normal to stop. Turns out it was the master cylinder. Like I said I'm no mechanic but it does sound similar to my situation.

That gives me somewhere to start looking.

Do you know of a way to test or signs by looking at it that it might be bad?

I would hate to spend the money to replace it to find out that that was not the problem.

No sorry...I've helped as much as I can. I have a buddy that is a mechanic and I called him when I had my issue. He fixed me up.

I would get it into a mechanic right away. Sooner is better than later after you crash.

Sounds like you're losing the power assist to your brakes. How are the belts on your vehicle?

Otherwise check the brake booster or vacuum pump and lines.

The belts are good. After some research it seems like all signs are pointing to the booster.

Hey, I need the brake here! :D
