I live in so cal and there's no limit, year round for ring necks. Anyone have experience hunting them? I see them EVERYWHERE. I've got a few in my backyard with an air rifle, but they seem to get scared away REALLY easy compared to a mourning dove. My dad just gave me his old hunting shotgun (Remington 11-48) so I really want to find an area where I can legally hunt them. I love dove meat!
I used to pop 'em as a kid when I didn't know any better to be honest but now I'm strongly against poaching. That's why I'm curious if anyone hunts ring necks often, because it's legal in CA.
I'm truly sorry for hijacking your thread cawwwrin but this never gets old. Ever. Now back to your regularly scheduled program.
I have about ten in my backyard right now. I should probably start picking them off again. They eat the chicken feed.
You probably haven't been around long enough to get it, but there's an inside joke here for everyone that's been around for a while. Don't take it personal, but we love to talk about ssssshhhwwaaaccccking some doves.
I have. They're just like big mourning doves. Sometimes I let the dog eat them. I shoot a lot of house sparrows too but the dog won't eat those. The pig ate a few sparrows that fell in its pen. Had a chicken that kept going into the pig's pen. Eventually the pig ate it too. Lol
Imperial Valley is where you are looking for. You will find them around tree lines and feed lots. Unlimited supply out there.
