Looking at e-ciggs and vaporizors to try to get my dad off regular ciggs. I've been doing research for like a week on everything from batteries to e-liquids. I'm amazed at how much of a crash course education I've gotten the last few days online on this crap. Going from completely clueless to understanding how most of the best tanks and cartomizers work and are put together in under a week makes me laugh in retrospect from the time I first looked at their use in a youtube video. So much stuff to look at it's overwhelming. I've never been a smoker but I have to admit I'm going to take a few drags off one of these things when I get something ordered. P.S. This isn't anything to do with marijuana either, for those who don't know....just flavored nicotine liquids in vegetable glycerine base.
LOL, no, not even close. Traditional cigarettes that are smoked carries anywhere from 300 to 1400 times as many nitrosamines (depending on brand), the main killing carcinogen. Heating up the tobacco, rather than igniting it, to deliver the nicotine eliminates majority of the carcinogens that actually cause lung damage and cancer. Of course not smoking at all is better but electronic cigs and vapor delivery systems deliver minimal trace amounts. It is a great way to get people off regular cigarettes. EDIT: Just to add, e-cigs and vapor delivery is barely more than nicotine gum and about equal to that of nicotine patches.
Who is this "they"? This info is directly contradictory to the claim they are as or are more dangerous.... Drexel University E-cig Study Studies Find That E-Cigarettes Are Safe "Key Conclusions: Even when compared to workplace standards for involuntary exposures, and using several conservative (erringon the side of caution) assumptions, the exposures from using e-cigarettes fall well below the threshold forconcern for compounds with known toxicity. That is, even ignoring the benefits of e-cigarette use and the factthat the exposure is actively chosen, and even comparing to the levels that are considered unacceptable topeople who are not benefiting from the exposure and do not want it, the exposures would not generate concernor call for remedial action. Expressed concerns about nicotine only apply to vapers who do not wish to consume it; a voluntary (indeed, intentional) exposure is very different from a contaminant. There is no serious concern about the contaminants such as volatile organic compounds (formaldehyde, acrolein, etc.) in the liquid or produced by heating. While these contaminants are present, they have beendetected at problematic levels only in a few studies that apparently were based on unrealistic levels of heating. The frequently stated concern about contamination of the liquid by a nontrivial quantity of ethylene glycol ordiethylene glycol remains based on a single sample of an early technology product (and even this did not rise tothe level of health concern) and has not been replicated. Tobacco-specific nitrosamines (TSNA) are present in trace quantities and pose no more (likely much less) threatto health than TSNAs from modern smokeless tobacco products, which cause no measurable risk for cancer. Contamination by metals is shown to be at similarly trivial levels that pose no health risk, and the alarmist claimsabout such contamination are based on unrealistic assumptions about the molecular form of these elements. The existing literature tends to overestimate the exposures and exaggerate their implications. This is partiallydue to rhetoric, but also results from technical features. The most important is confusion of the concentrationin aerosol, which on its own tells us little about risk to heath, with the relevant and much smaller total exposureto compounds in the aerosol averaged across all air inhaled in the course of a day. There is also clear bias inprevious reports in favor of isolated instances of highest level of chemical detected across multiple studies, such that average exposure that can be calculated are higher than true value because they are “missing” all true zeros. Routine monitoring of liquid chemistry is easier and cheaper than assessment of aerosols. Combined with anunderstanding of how the chemistry of the liquid affects the chemistry of the aerosol and insights into behaviorof vapers, this can serve as a useful tool to ensure the safety of e-cigarettes. The only unintentional exposures (i.e., not the nicotine) that seem to rise to the level that they are worth furtherresearch are the carrier chemicals themselves, propylene glycol and glycerin. This exposure is not known tocause health problems, but the magnitude of the exposure is novel and thus is at the levels for concern based onthe lack of reassuring data." I probably inhaled far more crap this year burning off 800 acres of CRP than I would ever get with e-ciggs (which they aren't for me anyway). However, honestly....I didn't start the thread to debate the topic....I simply asked if anyone here used e-type vapor equipment.
Here's what the American Lung Association has to say about them. http://www.lung.org/associations/st...in-the-news/some-say-vaping-e-cigarettes.html
Yeah that is an old story that was actually investigated and reported by a Florida TV station in 2012, there's a video on youtube from it that they took that text directly from. It's funny because they are making false claims against the ingredients, authorities do know exactly what's in the liquid and the chemical supposedly found that is shared with antifreeze is actually the wrong chemical. The study I posted earlier was done after that Florida story was done that is still being used on the lung associations website, lol. Obviously the lung association is not going to endorse any form of inhalant anyway.
I took that article as it was too soon to know the long term effects. Since the ALA called it potentially hazardous, that led me to believe there have not been enough studies. WebMD seems to take the same stance. http://www.m.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/features/electronic-cigarettes?page=1
Yeah, like anything else everyone will complicate it for any number of reasons, some with a political agenda, some with severe bias one way or another, etc, etc.. I know real ciggs are bad for a person and these e-ciggs have gotten tens of thousands off the real things. I can't imagine something made from vegetable glycerin, natural organic flavoring, nicotine and water being as bad for a person as a tobacco cigg with over 4000 harsh chemicals including glue and tar. Reviews from hundreds of people that have switched reporting that they breath better after two weeks of changing over is about all the study I need at this point. I ordered a couple of flavors with 0% nicotine for me to play with to calibrate the equipment for dad since he's 73 and technology challenged, lol. I doubt he'll change but it's worth a try, especially when he walks across the living room and I can hear him gasping for air while he lights up another damn analog cigg.
Personally as a non smoker/non e cig user, if nothing else I think if the e cigs even eliminate the secondhand smoke or affect on people around and keep the effects to the person using I'd say that's a plus at least. Beyond that point I really don't know much about them worth contributing, just one thought I had when I heard of them Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That and not having cigarette butts is a plus. I think they always were an unnecessary garbage that made places look dirtier than they needed to be. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Check out Sycodrops - eCig Vapor Liquid Stacey is our local vape lady and she makes a mean liquid. I have been smoking my e-cig for 8 months now and I have not craved a cigarette yet. As a matter of fact i am almost in the stages of quitting all together now that my nicotine is lower than 10 mg. The only thing bad about electric cigarettes is, there are no long term studies. The vape I smoke has 5 ingredients and almost all of them are also in our food we eat every day! I also want to point out that I shot my first buck while vaping this past year. He had no idea I was around so the scent is no worse than body odor to deer. How can it be worse than a cigarette? My favorite Mod
I'll give you my two cents. I'm a regular smoker. I tried to quit using e cigs. And I will tell you those things made my body feel totally different, from a smokers perspective, I feel they are unsafe. Yes, less safe than your typical Marlboro. Just my opinion... and only time will tell. Many better options to quit. And I'm working no
jlathigee how did you feel? I also noticed when I first started smoking my vape things started to change for better and not quite worse. The only bad thing I have heard of is, if you don't start off on a high enough nicotine level, you constantly will hit your vape causing water to build in your lungs from the water vapor. A regular cigarette is anywhere from 24 to 36 mg. I started at 20 and am now down to 12mg.
That thing looks pretty awesome, haha. I recognize the Nautilus tank but not that mod battery. I ordered one of the nautilus tanks yesterday. From everything I researched they are top of the line all the way around. I ordered a couple of Ego-C twist batteries and cartomizers to sample liquids to start off until I found one or two dad really likes then I'll order a better mod for the nautilus tank and a couple of larger bottles of juice. I ordered most of the samples from Mt Baker juice and Virgin E-juice, I got almost all of Virgins samples and all of Bakers tobacco flavors. I was intrigued by Virgins mixtures of pure organic VG based juices. I'm going to walk into my folks one day smoking one of them and I know they will both freak out, lol. I'm going to say well it's okay for dad so it's okay for me. I'm hoping the shake up will give me a window to introduce dad to vaping and the possibility of getting away from ciggs. I've learned in my old age that sometimes I have to play the folks just right to get them to open their minds up to new ideas.
Also, what did you try using to quit? The little wanker store bought cigg looka like e-ciggs are junk from the research I did. They are all also PG based and some people have reactions to the PG base but I've not heard or read one person having any reaction to VG based solutions. Thats why I went 100% VG right from the start.
The Nautilus tank is one of the largest they make as well. It will generally last about 5 Full tanks before you have to change your wick. I personally can say that I know over 5 people, one being my mom, that have smoked for over 30 years and quit once they used a electric cigarette. My biggest argument is how much worse could it possibly be! The only bad part is the addiction to building your own coils and tanks! Good Luck
Now see, thats the kind of info right there that I didn't find in my research and was hoping to see in this thread. I ordered some of the tobacco flavor for dad in 24mg but I was just guessing as to strength so thats a good bit of info to have. I've noticed dad trying to slow down a bit but he's smoked like 3-4 packs a day for 40+ years, I'm guessing he's slowed down to like two which is still freaking crazy high for his age and health. I don't beat the dead horse on trying to get him to quit because it just ticks him off and between that and the stress involved in actually dropping the nicotine, I'm afraid that would be worse than him smoking anyway.
Awesome, info! How long does a tank full last? That was one thing I've never seen stated anywhere. Is a tank full equivalent to like a pack of ciggs or two packs or a half a pack or what?
