Watched an interesting documentary the other night on Netflix called "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead." Basically, this guy (and a couple others) went on a juicing fast and lost mad weight and became non-dependent on their medications while improving their health dramatically. I'm not necessarily going on a juicing fast but would like to add a few glasses of juice to my daily diet. Who knows though, I might even try the fast to see what happens. Sometimes I go days without eating any fruits/veggies. I'd like to begin making wiser dietary choices and (once again) attempt to workout. In the past, I've begun a few workout regimens (P90X, Labrada Lean Body challenge, etc) but quickly lost the desire. Even set up a home gym that I never use anymore. It consists of a treadmill, benchpress w/ leg curl and preacher curl, multiple bands, pull-up bar, and adjustable dumbbells. I work a swing shift schedule and have blamed my lack of motivation on that in the past. Hoping to turn it around. This documentary got me thinking. I'm 6'0 and 190lbs but my BF% is a bit high. Wish me luck. http://www.fatsickandnearlydead.com/
My sister did the juice fast and lost a TON of weight very quickly. She gained it all back over a period of a couple of months though.
What I've found of home gyms that quickly become expensive places to hang clothing. Try Max Muscle. 540-382-0555 My friend Josh owns the store. He can help you guaranteed.
Matt...if nothing else, I hope I will stick with the juicer to get my daily fruits/vegetables. Making a lifestyle change is difficult and I already have my doubts about it. Amateur, how does Max Muscle differ from GNC and other related stores? I have a GNC in Roanoke.
1)GNC products are mainly sugar based. 2) How often you've enter GNC and they can't explain the benefits of using the product or tell you what the product does? 3) A Max Muscle store owner has to go to a Max Muscle Product and Nutritionist school before owning a store and if that owner can't represent or live up to the standards of Max Muscle. your could lose your store. Don't get me wrong GNC is a good store. But Max Muscle is the Best store around when it comes to supplement and knowledge of nutrition. Look at the video listen to what Josh has to say give him a call and if you'll that close to me hell we should hook up for a hunt in September. Once I get these stitches out from surgery and the Doctor give me the green light I'm going to crank up some serious body building...
My opinion...gimicky diets will never compare to a proper eating plan and exercise. Learning to eat correctly goes a long, long way. Its really not that hard once it becomes part of your lifestyle. You could incorporate one of these juice drinks or two a day, but in my opinion, it just makes it more difficult if you are looking for convenience. Let me know if you want any help.
andro, dbol, deca, hgh, winstrol are some of my favs.... jk- a few guys i know are crazy about juicing and and in great shape! but they also workout like madmen as well.... my point being is if you are busting yours in the weight room just about anything with work, a lot cheaper than the supplement stores as well
Why would it make it more difficult, convenience-wise? I could make some juice ahead of time and store it in "on the go" bottles and have it readily available. Mass produce juice at once per se, for a few days or week. I'm just worried how long I would stick to it. I've been known to never stick with any workout routines/diets.
Vito hit it right on the head! Don't know alot about the juice fasting but it sounds to me all you do is drink juice? Thats crazy. These fab diets turn out to be big time disasters. When you deprive your body of a certian food or vitamn for a prolonged period of time there can be some serious side effects. One you'll notice the most is an immediate weight gain once you end the diet/fast. Reason being, often your body will stop or make less of the enzymes needed to break down those foods that you deprived it from during the diet/fast. When you introduce your body back to those foods after the diet your body doesnt have what it takes to break those things down and can store it as fat. There are countless health effects as well when you deprive or overdoss on certain vitamns/nutients/minerals. Vito's right, nothing works better than exercise and a healthy diet. It's all about speeding up your metabolism. One of the easier things to do to speed up "the furnace" is eat the right amount of food but split them up into 5-7 meals a day rather than the usual three.(that doesnt mean 7 meals of fried chicken and beer either!) As far as exercise goes start slow so you dont get burnt out. First week shoot for 60 minutes of cardio. Even if its just a brisk walk try and get you heart rate up and keep it up for 20 minutes and call it quits for the day. Do that three times a week and you got your 60 minutes the first week! Move up from there each week. If you are looking to gain muscle at the same time try circuit training. There are countless options. Key is if it sound gimmicky, it probablly is. I did do P90x from start to finish and it does work but, I can understand how alot of people can't keep up with it since it requires pretty much 7 days a week. The biggest key is motivation, get a buddy and have a competition, or use them as accountability. You will not always see gains each week, but stick with it and you'll be amazed at how fast things will change. 3 months in and you'll look completely different than when you started! Need any help or questions about diet or total calories pm me. It can become addicting if you stick with it long enough!
It would be more of a hassle for me. I have to get a juicer, make the juice, wash the juicer, take bottles of it with me, etc. To me its just easier to eat the fruit and vegetables, but thats just me.
Of course you'll lose weight on the juice diet, it's called starvation. A big green leafy salad will not only give you plenty of nutrients but fill your stomach up as well. Like Vito said, it's a lot easier to adjust how you eat to a healthy lifestyle than it is to crash diet. I'm never hungry throughout the day and I can still lose weight if I stay active. Cook up a batch of sweet potatoes, buy some almonds and walnuts, invest in plenty of fruits and veggies and try to choose lean cuts of meat and cook them in a way that's healthy. You'll find that by eating small amounts throughout the day, you'll never go hungry, you'll increase your metabolism and your body will actually get the nutrients it needs. I've got a half a cooked sweet potato in my bag that I'm looking forward to eating on my ride home from work. It tastes good and it'll give me the energy I need to hit the gym.
I just typed a WHOLE bunch of stuff, but realized that all these threads turn into arguments no matter what...too many variables and opinions. Truth...take in more than you burn equals weight gain burn more than you take in and you loose weight 100000 ways to make that happen. Please read all you can and start to form your own opinions...there is no easy answer at all, and that is why the industry is a billion dollar a year industry.
I don't know if juicing is the answer... but dang I got to come up with something. I've gained 15 pounds in the 3 months I quit smoking. I know some of it is due to the A Fib stuff I've been having and it's cut down on my activity. But the meds are getting me back more normal and I need to do some exercise big time. Juicing..????? I'd have to know more before I went that way. Can I drink Scotch on a juice fest?
The answer actually is easy, but the industry has made it confusing. Yes 100000 ways to lose weight, and 99990 are fades. Avoid gimicky diets, and make healthy eating part of your lifestyle...not a "diet". It really is very easy when you have the correct information. This is nothing new, but again, the industry has confused the hell out of people. Everyone wants to make a buck.
Supposedly, you need to consume the juice right after you make it or it loses many of it's benefits ... I think you should just wash the veggies you will juice and eat them .... at leather you.will get the fiber .... I did the juicing thing for cleansing .... it works for that ... but it's not a weight.loss deal that will carry you thru your life ... for most people anyway ....
