We had our bye weekend this week so that meant a half-day Thursday, off Friday, Saturday and Sunday. convinced littleshooter (Tara) to take Friday off of work and hunt the entire weekend (co-worker in the city think she’s crazy). She did and about 0845 Friday morning this gal walked out with her yearling. Put a good shot on her and she limped less than 20yds before giving two big pushes for air and tipping over. I could see the doe laying from my stand but made Tara do the tracking job. She followed the blood drop for drop never looking up until almost kicking the doe! Since she had never done it before it was Tara’s turn to field dress a deer. My first time was on the side of the road after some guy smacked one with his truck on Mother’s day. Pops asked the cop if we could have it and then handed me that buck knife from his pocket! Yuck!!! She did great and only need a little help with the rear end=-) oh forgot to mention that every time (sunfish “pops”, goose “honked” and the pssssssssss noise it makes after the first cut into the cavity) she flings her arm up in the air all the while holding the knife nearly missing my eye/face/head every time! this was the exit side is she dead? lunch
Isaiah failed to mention that I also was the deer Sherpa that day and helped drag her to the truck. I have no idea how you guys do that on your own. It was a workout! We had an awesome time and although I didn't see anything (other than a lil 4pt outside of my shooting lane) all weekend, was great to be out there, see Isaiah take that doe and for me to get that initial field dressing out of the way. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. As for the 'ole knife in the eye trick.....why don't you warn a girl?! Congrats on a great doe!
