Here is a video from a doe a buddy of mine shot. It was a great hunt and i was happy to lay it all down on film. My videos are not the best at all so any advise or criticism anyone has would be greatly appreciated. I can only get better by fixing what i did wrong. Thank you to all who take time out of their day to watch it.
I really liked that video, I dont film my hunts so I can't give you to much feedback or constructive criticism but I think the others on here will enjoy that video just as much as I did! good job!
My only complaint is both of you climbing into the tree at the same time, and I didn't notice a lifeline either. Be safe first and foremost. As far as the video itself, great job, and congrats on the Doe kill. Thanks for posting it.
Great video. I don't video much but Ill point out a couple of things a noticed. Camera shake and jerking camera around. At certain times there was camera shake, not sure if it was from bumping the camera arm or not but that could be cut out. Also, trying to film certain things, you jerked it there instead of moving the camera fluidly to the object of interest. Another thing I would suggest is more camera filming and less from the GoPro. The GoPro does a nice job at different angles of the hunt but isn't the best choice when filming anything else like interviews, etc. Focus is another thing, during the film there was points where you were focusing in and out trying to get the sharp video. Try getting more film of the object so you can cut out those parts. All in all it was great film but you asked, so that's what I noticed.
Thank you for the input, thats what i wanted, i want to be able to improve like i said and hearing other peoples opinions is one of the only ways i can. As far as the Life line and being safe, we always try to be as safe as possible and wear our safety harness and hook up the second we get in the tree but we didn't use a life line and i agree that we need to do that and add that level of safety to our hunts because like you said safety is most important. And Jake/PA you pointed out some very good things and i agree with the things you said. When you are talking about the GoPro and using it to much what part of the video do you think we use it to much? Im just curious to help improve. Again thank you for the comments I'm glad everyone has enjoyed it so far.
I watched it over again just to make sure. ---Try using tripod in the beginning interview. ---Use GoPro as a tool for different perspectives. The clips that were filmed while moving witht the GoPro are real shaky. Try sitting it down where it will remain steady and get your friend to walk by it. At the end when hes walking up to the doe would be another good way to use GoPro. Instead of him carrying it, lay it in front of the doe or behind (to show does body) and film him walking up to it. --The walk in when you were filming it was shaky, which would be expected. Try getting out in front of the hunter and have him walking in. Or set the camera up on the tripod and film both of you walking in. --Maybe add a little more on the begginning. The kid said he put up the stay the day before, maybe try filming him doing that as well. A lot of the methods are done on Heartland Bowhunter, which Im sure you've seen. If not, I highly recommend it. They have a lot of great(expensive) gear but most of what I mentioned you can do without.
