This morning while on stand I heard a buck grunt but for the life of me I couldn't find him anywhere. It was around 8:30 after I had watched 9 other deer make their way by me with In 20 yards. Finally this grunt was getting closer. My bow was In hand and I was ready to go but still I couldn't find this buck. There was a doe around while this was going on. The grunts keep getting closer and to my surprise It was this doe. She came by at 10 yards and grunted. It was deeper then some of the bucks I've saw grunt. She made lap after lap around me grunting this morning. What's going on here? She acted like she was looking for a buck and wanting some. I've never heard a doe do this sound either but I've been told doe's will make the sound like the can when their In heat and looking for action.

    What you all think?

i could be completely wrong, but i've always been told that a doe grunt is a way of saying "come here" ... that its more of a social call, usually used on fawns and other does

Maybe she was playing a sick joke on you. " Hey guys watch this". " I'll walk by this hunter and grunt and he'll think he's gonna see the buck of this life then when he see's me he won't know what to do". lol

Had a doe do that to me on my last hunt.

A yearling came RUNNING In, and i could hear another deer walking in the leaves and grunting.

    I was PUMPED.

Ended up being a doe, to me, she was calling to her yearling telling it to calm down and not move through the woods so quickly. I shot at her and missed.

    I dont like that doe.

Hey Simon, a yearling would be a 1.5 year old deer.

Damn it, Simon, I thought you of all people would know this.

    young of year = fawn

    1.5 yo = yearling...meaning it is a year old

I actually heard a doe grunting tonight while I was in the stand. She had a yearling with her, and the yearling ran off ahead of her. that's when i heard her grunt to the yearling. she grunted several times while walking towards the yearling. I've never heard a doe do that before.
