I've noticed over the years on various forums that there are people similar to me in terms of acquiring new interests, changing priorities, time loss/gain, etc., Some people were die hard bowhunters and now enjoy land management more. Some were big target archers, and now just enjoy bowhunting. Others seem to go a different direction all together (more into firearms, fishing, motorcycles, etc.,).

Obviously, the majority of us here are more than just weekend warriors when it comes to hunting. That goes without saying. However, has there been a time in your life when it wasn't that way? If there hasn't, can you foresee that ever happening? Maybe it's the lack of time granted to you due to family obligations. Maybe it's your work getting in the way. Or, maybe your priorities and/or interests change (as I noted above).

For me, I always seem to get excited about hunting. I spend a lot of time prepping and actively participating. There are a lot of things that can keep you busy year round, if you desire. Running cameras, management, scouting, shed hunting, etc,. I had always imagined my time spent prepping would increase some day if I were to purchase land. I would get into more TSI, creating cover, food plot work, planting trees, etc., Now that I'm starting to realize land may not be in my future, I'm wondering if I might find myself doing other things to occupy my time in the "off" season.

Flyfishing is one of those things. I dabble in it now, but I really think it offers me more things that my current hunting doesn't. For one, I'm forced to fish public waters, and often this results in exploring a lot of various streams, mountain brooks, ATW, Class A, Special Regs, etc., Even just inside of my county, there are all sorts of places to go, you could explore somewhere new for weeks on end if you wanted to. Not to mention the fact that its seasons peak the opposite of hunting, so you can do both. I never really wanted to dedicate much time to it (because it requires a decent amount in the beginning) because of how much I felt I wanted to be doing other things hunting related. But, I can see that desire fading a bit. Maybe a change of pace, even if it's just for a little in the spring/summer months, is all I need.

So where do you stand? Is it a natural evolution/progression to change your "passions" even if it's within one hobby like hunting? Maybe you started off a hunter, then got real serious with 3D. Then it was indoor. Then maybe back to hunting. Maybe now, it's just about getting your family on deer and you enjoy watching. Who knows.

I suppose this is coming off as a ramble, and so I'll stop:D I figure the WC needs some more threads, so why not make an utterly nonsensical one?

When I was in middle school it was basketball
When I was in high school I was into car stereos
When I was in my early 20's it was motorcycles
Then I got into a motorcycle accident and it has been mostly hunting and family for my free time since.

Now I am an old man and I don’t see myself changing much anymore. My interests have not changed much once I got into my late 20’s and got married.

Not really, I do some more than others now because I just don't have the time or the place to them anymore.

I still love playing basketball as much as I did when I was 13, although I might pick a ball up twice a year. I still love bowhunting, although I only went 8 times this year. I still crave backpacking adventures, but I haven't been in 3 years.

It isn't because I have lost interest, it's mostly because I just can't seem to find the time or place to do them at the moment.

My passions/hobbies change just as the seasons do. They always have.. Hunting season leads to ice fishing and shed hunting -- which leads to turkey season-- which leads to fishing season-- which leads right back to hunting season again

They are basically still the same as they were 25 years ago other than my body not allowing me to play sports like i did in my 20's and 30's. No more golf, softball, basketball, Flag football ect...

    Sucks to get old!

    Side bar

Hook I thought you didn't hunt.. Then I saw this! Hooker quote" I still love bowhunting, although I only went 8 times this year."

Women, Traveling, and Bowhunting... I honestly doubt I could rank them. Lol

I'm also pretty passionate about my work in clinical pharmacy but I assume Jobs don't count for this discussion.

Lively banter... a place to play devils advocate.. a place where opinions are like butt hole and they all stink the same and you just want to remind everyone of that fact.. I don't know you just never talk hunting?.. why is that?

I don't really have much interesting to say concerning hunting. Most of you guys have better set ups, hunt more, and kill more than I do.

You need to come to Indiana and hunt as my guest so you can reasonably make a true fact filled comparison of setups ---- :)

Not sure mine is all that much better, but feel free to send me a pm if you want setup a hunt.. side note.. should cost less than $500 to hunt with me for 3 days...that's all license, gas and travel cost on your end...

My hobbies change with the seasons... and I've really had to crack down and settle with the ones I enjoy the most... Which is Target archery, Fishing, hunting... in no particular order... Bowhunting took a big hit this past season for me... aside from 1 week in OH, I didn't get to hunt very much... actually didn't even kill a deer with my bow at all this year. Didn't hardly even run a camera at all.. and trail cameras are almost as exciting to me as hunting... I have better chances of getting a big buck on camera than in bow range. :D

I have a million hobbies and time for none. My full focus can never be dedicated to one hobby because I love them all.

After season scouting in the winter. Turkey and fly fishing in the spring. Crow hunting, drinking, golf and fishing trips in the summer. Bowhunting in the fall. Also trying to become a better photographer.

Just started into fly fishing and fly tying, which will take awhile to become decent at. When the best fly fishing is in, bowhunting starts and I have a hard time getting the fly rod out at that time. Fly tying seminars are in the fall as well. It's a constant struggle.

Ill never have the urge to switch hobbies because I will constantly be trying to improve in the ones I have now.

I really didn't think you hunted either!! lol
i grew up hunting, never was into it seriously until a few years ago, then something clicked inside me and I've been obsessed ever since, nothing else compares for me.

Bowhunting, shed hunting, metal detecting, and a few of my favorite firearms.

I am pretty consistent with these.

Kayaking comes and goes for me as I don't care to go by myself and all of my friends are well beyond lazy.

You could always discuss broad heads, baiting, ethics, "would you shoot this buck?", or "what would he score?"

I know they say never say never, but I never foresee myself not bowhunting. I've always made time for it, no matter what other interests had to take a back seat (minus family of course).

I just have a lot of interests that I want to explore, just not enough time, I suppose. For me, I don't think it's about my interest levels changing, but the time available and my willingness to dedicate the time.

For the most part hunting & fishing have been a constant.

Now within each of those my interests vary and intensify or wane as time goes. Probably include shooting also, whether its guns or bows.
With hunting I am less into bow hunting as I used to be and more into taking advantage of whatever season is in. For a while I also got big into predator hunting, but now not so much. Fishing I used to be all trout all the time. Then I discovered smallmouths. Now I am lucky to make a few trips for each a season. It's not that I dont like to fish, I just have a harder time justifying the time.

Besides my day to day daddy and husband responsibilities and that pesky four letter word "work" (that I am thankful for but takes up too much time) I would have to say that bowhunting, camping, fishing, guns/knives, and watching football are my hobbies.

If I could take up a new hobby it would be to learn how to go on vacation and not do a single thing. Relax.
