Its come to the point, where the less the federal government does, the better off we are. All the hype about the government shutdown hurting the country and economy, I've seen no negative impact from it. I hope that the federal government continues with the gridlock in it. It seems the best way to keep them from screwing up.

For each of us, the elections that most greatly impact us are our local and state elections. If each municipality, each state does what is best for themselves, when all combined, states and the country will get better.

As for the electoral college, nothing really needs to be done. what needs to change is how states allocate the electoral votes. No state should give 100% of its electoral votes to a candidate that only gets 50.1% of the votes from that state. Electoral votes should be allocated based on percentage of popular vote within each individual state with the leftover going to the winner of the popular vote in that state. for example in the 2012 election Obama got 55 electoral votes for winning CA where what should have been is (Romney with 38.4% of the vote receives 21 electoral votes, Obama with 59.3% receives 32 electoral votes +2 for winning the popular vote). this would remove some of the my vote don't matter thinking, and would give 3rd parties more impact.

I will continue to vote, but the only way to solve this country's problems is if a term limits bill is passed, we go back to actually using the Constitution again, and people regain a sense of personal responsibility and common sense. As mentioned above by Hooker, the only guaranteed way to achieve this is a military coup, tossing everyone out, and starting over. I think this election will show some telling trends to our long term future/existence (or lack thereof).

We replace politicians every cycle and has anything really changed? What good is term limits when we just elect clones of those leaving? We need to change who we elect not how often we have to replace them.

I think the best way to show that the people are not happy with our government is to collectively stop paying our taxes. Of course they have figured that strategy out and have it removed from our paycheck before we ever even see it. I don't know if it would be possible to stop that from happening or not.

There are plenty of career politicians in congress. If there wasn't a "career path" in politics, I think that would help in getting better options for candidates.

Here is an idea.. lets all start claiming all the dependents we pay for through our tax dollars!

Let see--- if I just count all my local government officials and all the folks on welfare in my county that is well over 400 dependent's easily..

You think that would raise any eyebrows at HR when I change my w4 or the IRS when I file?

they can't be a career politician if we don't vote for them. Term limits or no term limits it is still completely dependent on us voters. I understand the idea, but who are any of us to prevent others from electing who they want?

We have a term limit for the President, why should that position be treated differently from our Congress?

I'm sort of torn on the 2 term for president. On one side I can see limiting his/her terms based on the unique power a president has. On the other side, if the majority vote, shouldn't we follow that majority? Isn't that what our government was founded on.

You're assuming everything is legit and that there's no government fraud involved in "counting" the votes like in so many other countries. If you have a person holding the highest power for too long, eventually they will abuse the powers given to them.

Who is saying stick your head in the sand?

We keep voting in this system and we get the same undesirable results no matter who we elect. Do the same thing over and over and expecting differ results is a special kind of stupid.

Actually no I'm not assuming anything, I just have a faith in the principles this country was funded under.

Those principles are why we have the checks and balances we are supposed to, problem is it seems like they are not really working like they should be.
