I have a freind who shot a monster during the rut and the buck came right up to his buck decoy.
Ive never used decoys while hunting but thought it probaly wouldnt hurt but help.
Does anyone else use them and have good luck? Or maybe a doe decoy?

I don't but I know people who do. It can help ya or it could kill ya. Sometimes the decoy could scare them off while others they come right in to it. Is just one of those things, do you wanna test your luck or not

Tried out a doe decoy for the first time during the rut this past season. With a little estrus nearby, the smaller bucks couldn't resist. I think it's definitely worth a try!

I've tried them many times and generally have been disappointed. It has to be the right time for them to be effective. I'll probably try them again this year but don't have my hopes up for a big boy coming by to visit it.

Yeah i remember the year before last i had a monster running about 300 yards away.
And i would call and rattle anf it would stop and look in my directions many of times.
And im guessing he didnt come to me cuz it was a big open field and he didnt see anything.
So i always think if i had a decoy if he would have came running to me but idk.
Cuz they were chasin does all morning. So either decoy would have been helpful i think.

I've used them. For me, they seem to work better in a more open setting. Did have a young buck about come out of his hide when I used one in a wooded setting.

Since my small property provides its best hunting before the rut, I don't. My best opportunity on our 9 acres is to shoot a buck just before they break off from their bachelor groups.

Decoys are a really good investment. Especially the doe decoys during the rut, if you get a buck decoy and set out some doe estresus urine and make that buck look like he is about to mount that doe as soon as those mature bucks smell that doe and see that buck they are going to want to come in and kill him. Just make sure to really get that decoys scent-free never know how close a doe might get and you never want to spook a doe with a big buck watching

make sure you set them out in plain sight, like on top of a mound or something…or near the edge of a field, but not in the brush…and really really really do a good job of de-scenting it.
