I don't typically. I will sometimes put some corn or acorns out behind my house late season but it's usually just to watch deer from the dining room while we eat dinner. Hunting over a bait pile doesn't do much for me.
it would kinda make me sick shooting a deer over bait. takes no skill what so ever. build it and they will come.
Yes i do. Hunting here in texas is crazy just because the amount of hunters is insane. So if you hunt public land, you rarely see a deer because there are hunters everywhere. (yes it is legal to bait on the core land near me). I also bait on the property i can hunt also. But there are so many white oak trees on the property, they don't really care for the corn. I literally still had acorns on the tree a week or two ago. And there are still acorns all over the ground. Also to the comment one what the bucksnbears said " build it and they will come ". That isn't necessarily true. I have had my corn out on my property for months. Since august. I have had my camera on it the whole time also and i have probably 25 pictures of deer, (which only one stopped to eat at the corn). And out of those pictures only 6 different deer, with only one legal buck for sure. and all pictures are at night. So it isn't 100% guaranteed that you will get one.
no and it is legal here ND. Food plots don't interest me either. I hunt a large area and go and hunt where the bucks are at. I like to roam !! I have no interest in trying to draw them to me in a few baited spots or food plots. Tim
During bow season no but during gun season I tried it this year for the first time up north here in Wisconsin. I wasn't impressed so I will probably not do it again.
If you ever lived in an area like eastern NC where the use of dogs is legal for hunting deer & you just bowhunted you better use corn or something or your not going to c much. Dogs suck
On occasion where legal. You are pretty much forced to if everyone around you is as we found out. Otherwise you wont see a deer. Which is the case here where I live. People put corn out in there yards to look at the pretty deer. I sit in the woods not seeing any because I can't bait to make it even.
Yes. Its legal in here and in Kansas where I also hunt every couple years. I guess its just my style ...
I use corn all year long and have a mineral site too. Only in one spot and I've seen deer walk right over the corn and keep getting it.
Illegal so haven't. If it were legal I'd possibly try to see, but comparing pre and post season scouting when we can put bait out, me with plots and travel routes vs a buddy who scouts with corn, think I like my results better. He got mad having lots does, fawns, and small young bucks (and almost all nocturnal) and I had some pics of some nicer deer (with day pics). Just applying that to sitting over it instead of sitting the camera over it I'd prefer not to. Maybe would be different if doing it for a while and obviously there lots of other variables, (not too scientific of comparisons) just not convincing enough to want to I guess. If it works for others that's fine here. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yes I put out food for deer to eat. YOU BAIT A HOOK OR A TRAP! I have said this many times and I will continue too....There is NO SUCH thing as baiting deer! Planting a field of corn or spreading corm out on the ground is THE SAME THING!! BOTH WERE NOT THERE NATURALLY. SOMEONE HAD TO PUT THEM THERE! The difference is, the planted corn has to grow before it can be eaten. The spread corn is ready to eat.
This december will be my first attempt at baiting as it is legal in management zones 11 and 12, which are the coastal towns of southern CT (where I have permission to hunt). I have not had the time to hunt much this year so I have no meat in the freezer. Class will be over in a week so I intend to use whole corn to help improve my chances of harvesting a doe or two before the season closes. Yes I use bait while hunting
