I tip when we eat out and are served. We really don't do carry out so tipping never crossed my mind.

It makes me mad when they figure your tip in with the bill. Usually we will not go to these places twice because the food and/or service tends to be horrible so we avoid them.

I always tip the Chinese take-out joint because the food comes in that Chinese Tupperware. I have a drawer full of the stuff.

I don't. Too often I'd rather tip the chef/food-prepper and not the waiter/waitress anyway, but when dining in I typically tip 20%. With carry out they are literally handing me a bag and ringing me up, that would be like tipping someone at Bass Pro at the check out counter, it makes no sense.

I've only gone to two places that offer take out. We have a pizza/sub place that we will get dinner every once in awhile. If I have left over change from my bill I'll place it in the tip jar. The othe rplace is Little Ceasers and I never do a tip there as it is hot and ready pizza.

^Right, change in the tip jar yes, but not a formal tip to the person ringing me up.

If it's a place that you frequent and you know the people who are making your food, it's a nice gesture, but not necessary. Manners and etiquette will take you a lot farther than money and bull****, so I think it's more important to be a good customer and say please and thank you like you mean it. Oh God, does that sound like I grew up on the 50's and 60's?
