I think the 2 main things that point Saban to Texas are... 1) He hasn't signed his extension 2) If Mack is indeed being forced out, I don't think Texas would do it without having someone already locked up.
I don't hate Saban. I hate Alabama. So if Saban, the best coach in CFB, leaves Alabama, I would enjoy that immensely, especially with how arrogant the fans have acted in all of this. Ask any Bama fan and they will tell with certainty that Saban isn't going anywhere. The meltdown will be wonderous.
The fact that Sabin is out recruiting players for Bama makes me wonder if he is really leaving? I suppose it's possible he could develop relationships with players and then later steer them from Bama over to Texas?
It is not like he can just quit doing his job before everything becomes official. Bama could actually sue him if they wanted to if he did that. Remember when Tuberville left Texas Tech for Cincy? He was having dinner with a recruit, got the phone call that it was all official, and then just left without saying a word
Yesterday they were saying Mack Brown was recruiting in Florida when the story broke that he was stepping down as coach. He made a statement basically saying if that was true then why would he be working to get recruits and denied that he was stepping down. Think it was the AD of Texas that also said he didn't know where the reports were coming from. Who knows
USA Today just reported he "reaffirmed" his job status. Saying "he has a great president, and a new AD..."
Failed investments from 10 years ago when he has made 4+ million per year on his contract alone every year since then has me skeptical that he's hurting financially enough to need to leave for that reason (especially when there hasn't been one whisper of this for his entire time at Bama (until now when a Texas story pops up). The bolded part sums it up perfectly. This speculation is superbly fun. I have been giving my roommates hell all week. Came home in a Texas T shirt two days ago. :p It just doesn't make sense to me that he leaves, but MAN if he does I want to be here to see the collapse. haha As for the investment talk above, I don't mean to sound rude...but comparing Nick Saban to an athlete with 10+ people entourages from an inner city background going broke is insane. And to think that someone of Nick Saban's stature doesn't have FAR better investment guys working for him than us is also insane. Does he have a bad investment? Sure sounds like it. Did he tie up 100% of his millions into one project and come up broke while keeping it under wraps for nearly a decade now? Maybe he is even better than I thought he was at controlling the media. lol
Several websites I looked at all estimate Sabin's net worth at $15 million. So he can't be hurting too bad
LOL, worst case scenario is he works at either school for 6 years and walks away with $40+ million more. I'm fairly certain the choice between Texas and Alabama won't be about money. Just where he wants his career to go from here.
As far as my comments regarding commercial real estate investments, what I should have said is that I have many years of experience in analyzing business credit as well as the residential mortgage business. So, I have seen cases where fortunes were pissed away by people making risking decisions putting too many of their eggs in one basket. Of course many people have also become very rich in the commercial real estate market. But, like anything else there are good investments and there are bad investments. The people who make a lot of money in it seem to make more good one's than bad one's.
Now would be the perfect time for a psuedo-Nick Saban twitter account, light the match for this powder keg.
I wasn't doubting your experience at all. You certainly know way more about it than I do. I just meant that people like Nick Saban who thinks out every tiny detail down to his breakfast schedule don't strike me as the type to bury all his eggs in one basket, especially without the counsel of the best investors out there. I guess that's the thing with investors. Everyone is a genius when it's not their money on the line....
I don't think Sabin is going anywhere. If anything he will probably just use Texas as leverage to get more $ from Bama.
