Money, contract, facilities, recruiting (not that its an issue now), opportunity for another challenge in a football tradition place, better place to live, timing in his career, etc.... Plus he did his thing at Bama. What else could he possibly accomplish for his legacy there? Not much. Another NC? 2? So he'd be either a great coach at Bama or.... a great coach at Bama. I think he is going to relish this opportunity and jump at it.
I don't think so. D'Antonio is very well liked here and he's been building a pretty good program. Although we wouldn't rule out a national championship in the future, nobody is really expecting it. Also, I think D'Antonio is too nice a guy to fit in at Alabama. He would be a fool to leave here. Of course, you never know what a guy is thinking. I'm sure it would tickle his ego, and if an offer arrived when it's 9 degrees outside like it is now..........
So some of the latest rumors are that Saban is $20 mil in debt from failed real estate investments, and Texas (or rich Texas boosters) have promised to take care of that debt for Saban. According to the Baton Rouge Business Insider, one of Saban's investments, a failed retail center called Perkins Rowe, was just paid off/refinanced for an amount of $14 mil this week. Hmmm. Oh, and Mack Brown will hold a press conference at 10 am this morning. All indications that he will announce his "retirement".
What the heck is Saban doing. He was set for life already. Why risk it with bad investments? Good grief.
I agree. I would say it is mainly about greed. As a Credit Analyst I routinely see the debt trouble that people with high incomes somehow get themselves into.
I kind of chuckle at comments like these. I'm sure when he invested in said real estate he didn't think it would tank or he wouldn't have done it. The only thing dumber than investments that fail is stock piling money in an account that doesn't make you anything. Real estate these days is one of the safest investments around. Obviously it's still not fool proof. I'm not sure the real estate rumor is even true, it seems the story just keeps cycling through rumors of why he is going. A high up at Texas yesterday said they would NOT be signing any coach to a $100 mil contract with network revenue bonuses. Now it has shifted to shady side deals taking care of bad investments that literally no one knew anything about until rumors of him leaving emerged. Color me skeptical.
You chuckle all you want. You can make investments that you feel are okay. But you still keep enough of your money somewhere safe so if those investments go sour you still have enough to live comfortable off of. And keep diversified so that if you do make a bad decision you won’t lose everything instead of putting all your eggs in one basket. If anything he should of started small and worked his way up. Not risked his entire wealth. I don't think there is much to chuckle about. Sounds like common sense.
Trevor, there are a lot of ways to invest money while limiting the amount of risk. There is a long list of people in professional sports who bankrupted themselves due to risky commercial real estate deals.
What the heck is Saban doing. He was set for life already. Why risk it with bad investments? Good grief. it should of read something like: What the heck is Saban doing? He was set for life already. Why risk his financial future by executing poor investment strategies? Good grief.
Most of these investments were when he was still in BR as well. He got caught up with a business partner that has since went bankrupt. The failed investments are 100% fact. But I'm pretty skeptical as well as this might be the reason he would leave. It is still fun though.
