If they aren't they better be. Texas is the ONE school it may make sense with. Any other team with the same rumors is laughable...
Maybe, but there are more built in advantages to coaching at UT. The recruiting out of the state of Texas is second to none, by a long shot. They have better facilities, a larger fan base, more and wealthier donors, and deeper pockets. Just what a guy needs to build an empire. Mack Brown is probably one of the nicest guys in football, but lets be honest he's probably not even in the to 50 coaches in football, yet he has had great success at Texas. Replace him with Saban and you have an instant powerhouse. From what I'm hearing Texas is talking 10 million, plus a percentage of the revenue from the Longhorn Network.
Its just...with the new system, am I the only one who thinks Bama is an EASIER road to the championship? Drop a game at Bama and it's immediately excused as a tough SEC loss and you are sitting pretty at number 3. Drop a game in the Big 12 and you really better just hope others lose twice (see Baylor this year). No doubt Texas is the gold standard in Football Programs. Just like UK and the Lakers in basketball. I just don't think the gap to number two is as great as we are making it out to be.
As a Bama fan, I am a little worried that he is planning on leaving. Texas is the only logical school he would leave for. He is very competitive and wants to be the best. Go win some at Texas and he would be. But i hope it is just smoke. And no I am not one of those fans who has a shrine built to him. He is a hell of a coach but he is just a man.
I think the money gap is much larger than you want to admit. On paper it might not be more than what Bama could offer, but with other investments, under the table deals, etc, I think the money he could make at Texas trumps anything at Bama. And maybe he just wants to get away from Bama fans? I know I would
This was my initial thought as well, but once I started thinking about it...no way on earth Texas has lower expectations, especially after bringing in the best college coach in the country at 10 mil/year. If anything, the pressure to win is even higher there with even more media scrutiny (which Saban loathes). Definitely in endorsements and other deals Texas is better off financially, I was just trying to debunk the myth that the school itself would lose a bidding war for the coach. Do people really think Bama would let Saban walk over 3 million more on his contract. He is invaluable to either of these programs, which is why the whole situation is so entertaining to watch unfold. One of the top two programs is fixing to get screwed over, either way it goes.
His stock is worth quite a bit at this point. Alabama will not be a top 5 football team next year. He leaves now and as paid at the peak.
Sabin leaves programs. It's what he does. His current situation at Bama is that any season which is not a championship is considered a failure. Going to another program might feel a bit refreshing to him? I don't think Texas would expect an undefeated season right away. But the pressure would certainly build up to championship expectations within a couple years with the type of investment they would be making in him.
4, 5 or 7 million to Saban is meh. He wants the holy grail, we wants to be the goat & it's within grasp at Texas.
His paper contract will not be how he makes his real money at Texas. I'm sure there are a few billionaire oil boosters offering him 1% or 2% on their highest earning oil wells on top of his supposed Texas contract.
So say Saban leaves for Texas...who does Bama go after? Do they let Kirby Smart take over? We all saw how Muschamp, the supposed great Saban disciple ran Florida into the ground... Maybe Dantonio from MSU?
