Am I the only one that finds this silly? No deer I've shot has ever sneak-attacked me as I went to grab its antlers or hold its head. I can tell right away it's dead since its eyes are open and its chest isn't rising and falling. I get a kick out of some of these shows that the hunter cautiously walks up to the animal and gives it a nudge with his/her bow. Especially after the camera has been placed right next to the animal's head to see the hunter approaching. :dan:

Have any of you guys been suprise-attacked by a downed deer that really wasn't down? Would a Chuck Norris kick to the face finish it off like it did for this kangaroo?

Not with a deer, but I did get to watch Matt/PA do some hand to hand combat with a turkey a few years ago. :tu:

FACT- Chuck Norris was born in a log cabin that he built with his own hands.

I have had a deer I presumed dead struggle to get up as I laid my bow on his belly. Talk about going into panic mode man! lol IDK how I missed it as his eyes (well the eye I could see) was open and semi glazed over too.

I don't treat it as a grizzly or anything, but I still nudge them as I walk up. Not out of fear of being attacked, but out of fear of the animal up and running off.

I do and always will. They will get 2 or 3 good pokes with the pokiest thing I can find.(Insert joke here) Only because when I was 8 I was with my dad and he had shot a nice 10. We walked up on it he poked it with the barrel of the rifle nothing happened. He then straddled the deer grabbed its antlers and at the that moment the deer through his head back threw my dad to the ground took 1 step then fell over dead. That was probably the scariest thing I have seen. I was standing maybe 5ft away.

I always pump a second or third arrow into it, just for good measure.

    Rofl !!!

I don't poke the deer to make sure it is dead. I will have an arrow nocked when walking up to them just incase though.

If it is a big buck... I will have an arrow nocked and have my hunting knife clenched in my teeth. :p

If it is a mature fawn... I go back to the truck for fire power. Can never be too careful when it comes to mature fawns !!! :biggun:

Just habit I guess. I, too, squish squirrel heads with my boot.

Just do it. Who wants to be "that guy" who got his ass kicked by a "dead" deer?

I always nudge them, even though my buddy thats on here (idk his name) but Freeman shot a nice 8 a couple years ago and he walked up on it... It jumped up on him and almost pummled him to the ground. A second shot sureley took care of that problem. The first shot (not knowing at first) was in the head but it had only bounced off since the shot was 80+ yards with 20 gauge.

I'm just curious because this has never happened to me. What did you do in that instance to dispatch it?
