Do you guy's tip your taxidermist? I am not sure what the etiquette is on this. I have only had one other deer mounted and I didn't tip him. I paid $450 + tax on the mount figured that was enough but who knows. If you do tip what do you do, give him an extra $20 or do you do a percentage of what your charged.
He does the job and gives you the price - Why is there a need for a tip? It's basically like buying something from the store for me, and I sure as hell wouldn't tip the cashier at the local Walmart. I guess it depends if you get it done from a friend/well known local too, and how long it took them, etc, etc.
I wouldn't....Is that a typical price for a shoulder mount in your area? Here the average price is around $300 for a shoulder mount. I've never heard of anyone tipping...I know I wouldn't.
Between $400 and $500 is average for a quality mount in my neck of the woods. This year he is at $485. He does nice work, he is local, and he is a great guy.
I wouldn't tip. He probably owns his shop so he has determined what he wants his profit margin to be and charges you accordingly. Sent from my SCH-R970 using Tapatalk
I dated a girl who was a hair dresser who was working on getting her own company. She explained to me that you dont tip the owners if they do your hair. When I thought about it, it makes sense. They set the price they need. In cases like this, they dont get an hourly pay (especially a low one like waiters and hair cutters), they get what they need, which is what they ask. I think that fully applies in this situation. Tip workers, not owners (in most cases).
id have to have a reason to go to the taxidermist first.... and if that does happen, i strongly doubt i would give him a penny more than the price he quoted me at.
No tip. I have a couple taxidermist friends and they said tipping is not expected but they would take it if offered.
Well, I guess I'm the oddball... I tipped a new taxi this year, but he went above and beyond what was expected. He picked up my bucks head at the packing house 20 miles from his shop and had the euro mount done in a week. He was also very responsive/communicative via email & phone unlike others I have dealt with recently. He'll certainly get more business from me and A+++ referrals!!!
That GABowhunter. I was hoping there would be a taxi or a friend of a taxin on the forum that would chime in.
I never have. I don't think taxidermist really work for gratuity. They usually have a good idea of time and materials they will need per job a charge accordingly.
My cousin has done 4 of my 5 mounts. He gave me a break on all of them, and my last 2 I left him more than what he was asking, but again I'm already getting a break.
I disagree. My taxidermist always get a tip. For those of you that killed a buck this season have you got your mount back yet? I have. Taxidermy is an art form in everyway .There are a lot of guys out there that can throw a cape and horns on a form. Not a lot of them have the artistic ability to go along with it. It's the detail in a mount that counts. I also tip the lady the cuts my hair, people that serve my food and the pizza guy even though he gets paid a wage plus mileage.
The only tip I ever gave my taxi was to NOT make people wait TWO YEARS to get something back!!! It was a wild brown trout my case.
I don't usually tip but I pay in advance. I bribed my taxidermist last time, I gave him an extra $50 to get a late deer bumped up on the to-do list, delivered in December and got it back in Feb.
