Last fall around mid octdober, a friend I hunt with shot a doe. We don't knowingly shoot does that have fawns. After that, we started having two fawns in our food plot EVERY day. They were very young, but seemed to be alert. They were always together. Anyway, I think that doe was there momma. But they did fine through the season. I assume they are still around.
Bingo... In Md we have limitless Doe's in the region I hunt... Too many to choose from IMHO .... <>< + ><>
No chance in hell. never again. I did one time when i was 19...hearing those fawns cry and whine for momma stayed with me for quite awhile. to each there own though, I won't bash if someone else does it.
I'm sure they'll be fine. They'd put does off limits if it would kill all the fawns. I'd let her walk. Don't want to spook a big boy off. Lol “In a civilized and cultivated country, wild animals only continue to exist at all when preserved by sportsmen.” -Theodore Roosevelt
No, I like fawns to go through their first winter with their mom. Plus if she birthed 3 fawns it means she's definitely in good health so I'd keep her around and go for a different doe. This early in the season it just wouldn't make sense for my management plan.
Emotions aside... if you shoot an early season adult doe... whether you see the fawns or not... you are most likely orphaning a fawn... with or without spots The only reason all these deer are in the same frame is because of that golden acorn pile ten yards in front of that blind. The real issue... cuteness factor discounted... is whether or not to shoot early season does or not? For me... Probably not yet... but our season doesn't open until October 15. BTW, I have seen late fawns with spots still visible as late as January.
There's like 2 weeks of early doe here in pa so I don't have a choice lol unless I just don't hunt and you know that's not happening
It's very easy to have your pick with bait on the ground. Don't make it too obvious Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I wouldn't. I've shot does with fawns but I typically make a game time decision. If its a large fawn or fawns that look like they were dropped early then I will. If they are very small fawns and/or have spots, then mama walks.
I would, and have shot does with fawns, even triplets, and not thought twice about it. They survive. I have shot fawns in years past, making sure they were doe fawns, and felt good about that too.
Personally I'd pass, if she's a hot doe she may produce more bucks. I shoot grenade doe, call them in on the old grenade whistle.
