It seems I have been raised on the stuff so I would prefer to sit down to a meal of inside loins compared to a fancy steak. Maybe it's just me or the fact I know the work that was put into harvesting the animal.

While growing up me and my dad on any given year would have between 4-8 deer in the freezer, and as far as I know we only gave 1 away to my uncle in a year he didn't harvest one. Tenderloins are usually gone before the rest of the meat hits the freezer, and brats, jerky, summer sausage, roasts, and hamburger filled out the rest of the deer. Heck it would take 3 deer to fuflill a jerky order for our family.

So yep you can bet I like it that much and then some. Plus what's better than having a pot of deer chilli in our annual shotgun camp each day were there?

We prefer lots of other things but it's also very good in it's own right. My 5 Year Old boy LOVES it he did his Deer Steak Dance last night while I was grilling..

Our favorite (venison meal) is probably deer burger taco's.

Personally I like the fresh heart, cut a bit thick rubbed with Olive oil, season to taste and grill.
Although I did just get a recipe for stuffing a heart and may try that on the next one!

A fresh heart the morning after a kill was kind of a tradition in our household after me or my dad would kill a deer. We would always fry the heart up with some eggs, potatoes, and toast and munch in. One of the best parts of a deer IMO.

:D :p Christine, CONGRATS!!! That was your 1000th post, and a funny one at that!!!

    Dan,
I don't LOVE deer meat, but I make lots, and I mean LOTS, of JERKY out of it, and to date, I've never made a bad batch of jerky!!! I also make trail bologna out of it, mix in some SHARP CHEDDAR and Jalapenos, and it's pretty decent, a few guys here could tell ya. I won't throw away any of it, and I've given away a fair amount to people I knew WANTED deer meat, but couldn't or didn't hunt. My next door neighbor lady, who is 90, will always get a couple packs of back straps that I cut just for her, right out of the middle as she asks. She'll also always have a couple cold beers and sit on her front porch and listen to a little country music if my girls and I sneak over to visit with her for a spell!!! :D

Man, I love it... I eat a couple a year but I mix up my meals with quail, pheasant, dove, walleye and crappie. I generally give 1 or 2 away to people that I know as well.

    I prefer venison over beef.

Deer eat foods that are all natural, cattle, well who knows what they were fed to make em grow...;)

Could be that I was half starved and surviving on ramen noodles and mountain house....but a fat sitka blacktails backstrap in August when they are up high eating nothing but grass and raspberries has to be one of the best tasting meats I have ever eaten.

I love beef, venison, pork, chicken, seafood, hell I haven't found very many meat products I DON'T like.

If you guys are worried about what goes in your beef, buy one (or a half) off a local farmer to have butchered yourself. Save money AND get one you know was handled properly.

I'm not a huge fan or venison, and never have been.

My brother has liked venison since he was like 5. My friends and I made morning sausage from a doe. I shared a piece with my brother, put the rest in the fridge. An hour later, I look in the fridge and it was ALL GONE. He ate every last drop, probably licked the plate, too.

Dont get me wrong, I enjoy venison, but when I'm hungry and looking for something to make for dinner, I dont grab deer meat out of the freezer.

I will say- venison is a ton more healthy for us than store bought meats. No preservatives, steroids, hormones, etc...

I make my fair share of jerky, though. Everyone loves that !!

I generally give away 75% of the meat..
