Eating venison that is. Honestly, there are a ton of other things I would rather eat. When I shoot a deer anymore, I usually keep the backstraps, tenderloins and maybe grind some hind quarter up for burger. The rest and any other deer I shoot the rest of year I give to someone else. So, do you really like to eat it that much?
I love venison esp. the way my processor cuts it up boneless steaks my favorite just as good or better than beef steaks
Slim jims, summer sausage, etc....love it. The rest is ok, I give away several deer every year as well.
B-Straps, tenderloins, steaks......hell it's great eating. As far as burger that doesn't get made into yummy bologna or jerky, we use most of it in hamburger helper meals. It really cuts the cost of burger thoughout the year and you can't taste the difference.
It's all in how you make it. Cooked straight on the grill........I'd much rather eat beef. I have a butcher locally that makes knockwurst, keilbasa, hotdogs, etc out of my venison. Tastes fantastic, can't tell it's venison at all. I love jerky as well. I'll also cook backstraps butterflied, and saute them in butter, onions, and mushrooms. Other than this, I typically will just use ground stuff in pasta, etc.
Love it.. but I'm not a venison purist I often adulterate it with beef or pork. I just got making a pot of venison and pork carnitas. One pork butt and one deer shoulder. You need the fat of the pork to make it yummy. I make big batches of deer burger... but I mix it with fatty beef. It makes the absolute best chili and tacos. When I make venison stew, I usually throw some chunks of beef brisket in there too. Then it has the great venison flavor with just enough beef flavor and fat to keep it from being too dry. For backstraps and hindquarters, I cut roasts and cook them on my indoor rotissiere. Coat with a with olive oil and then cover with a dry rub... roast close to the burners. Mmm... yummy. I bought a meat cuber last year. Run a steak through twice, coat with seasoned flour, fry and then serve with biscuits and gravy. drool....
LOVE it...........love cooking it, eating it, sharing it with others. It's one of the finest tasting meats on the planet and very good for you as well (high protein, low fat and cholesterol). On the grill. Quick sear in a hot pan of garlic butter. Mixed into an omlette. Pasta sauce, chili, stews, stuffed peppers. Thin sliced in mushroom gravy with horseradish and mustard. Jerky. Burgers. Sausage. Bologna. Medium rare tenderloins with cabernet. Marinated backstraps. Cubed up and wrapped in bacon. I could go on alllllllllll day long
I enjoy eating venison. But I also love seafood, a good prime rib, pork chops, and many other things. Venison is not my favorite but I enjoy the variety. We eat about 2 deer / year. If i remember right I got 64 and 61 # of deboned meat off of last years bucks. I still have a little left.
I wish I did, but I don't. I do like the jerky, peppersticks but the cost is unreal for that stuff. I simply donate my deer to Iowas H.U.S.H. program, go home and eat beef.
Love it. I eat it pretty much 2:1 to beef. So much better for you, and it tastes wonderful. Venison sausage is amazing. Tenderloins, carrots, potatoes, onions, beef broth, and a little salt in a slow cooker for 8hrs, and MMMMMM. So good.
Yea I love it. Deer sausage, summer sausage, steaks, burgers, bologna, jerky, tacos, chili, I could go on.. :D
All of my family loves it. we finished off four deer before turkery season and my mom is wanting us to get one since then.
I absolutely love it, that and elk. Science has proven how healthy and lean it is for us. God new what he was doing. Butchered right and prepped right there is nothing better imo.
We love the steaks. Most of the burger goes into chili, sloppy joe (or sloppy doe as we call it) and spaghetti. Most of the roast I slice into jerky.
I'm the only one in my household that will eat it and to be honest, I'd sooner eat a Tbone or Filet Mignon. My PA buck entirely goes into making bologna and I must say, it's DELICIOUS. There's a ton of guys here who can testify to that. :D Last year, I also took a doe and an IL buck in conjunction with my PA Halloween buck so I did have a lot of venny. I was suprised when my wife did some roasts in the crock pot and ate at them (picked). I know I sure enjoyed them. I also, like mentioned definitely save the back straps and inner tenderloins.
I realize how healthy it is for you....blah blah blah.....but, like I said earlier, there's a lot of other thing's I'd rather eat. Don't get me wrong, I do like venison (and know how to cook it) but I'd rather eat: Sushi T-Bone Ribeye New york Sushi Seafood Walleye Boiled Northern Baked Lake Trout Seafood Prime Rib Perch Whole Grilled Chicken Sushi Seafood Fresh Tuna Fresh (insert lots of sal****er fish) Bear Loin (You've never had wild game until you have bear loin cooked right on the grill. You'd never eat venison again) Bear chops Bear anything is much better than venison. (Did I mention that?) Elk Loin Elk anything Caribou Did I mention Sushi and Seafood? I too could go on and on!
Deer (Whitetail) doesn't rank up there anywhere near the top when It comes to big game animals but I very much enjoy eating It, never will I give any away. When It comes to big game animals I'd much rather eat Mule Deer, Elk, Bear.
