My understanding is that mornings are typically better for rattling. Tonight I will be hunting over my buck decoy for the first time. Just wondering if I should just throw some grunts out or if I should get real aggressive and rattle as well. I will be putting my decoy on a wide open field edge with timber behind me. If this was a morning hunt I would not hesitate to rattle and grunt.
I don't know. That is why I am asking. Is there a drawback to getting too aggressive in the evening? Would you just throw out some grunts or start whacking away with the antlers? I am sure either would work. What has worked for you or been your experience.
Im not sure about you neck of the woods but bucks are not very aggressive here yet. Had two under my stand this morning. They pinned their ears back but just lightly bumped their antlers together a few times. A cool show none the less.
I've seen one nice 8 pointer chasing hard on Sunday night (the last time I hunted). Maybe I will just lay off the horns tonight and send some grunts out.
Nothing wrong with rattling now or In the evenings. Just be careful on how aggressive you get. Not hard but not to soft either, simulate a good sparring match this time of the rut and year.
I guess I have never heard that? I have seen some pretty good brawls between bucks during the afternoon so if I was someone who liked to rattle I would likely do it any time of day.
