Whatever makes you sleep better at night. Synthetic is not ground breakingly lighter than wood. Not enough to make a noticeable difference in recoil, typically. Depends on the material. Over a great range of temperature (0-100) the wood will contract and expand at a much larger rate than any synthetic material ever would. More consistency= more accuracy. I love the look of my wood stocks, but my go to guns are both synthetic. I beat on my SBE pretty hard as well as my TC Encore.
Depends. I have a 700 that I carry the most that is wood. I love the looks of it, and it has some scratches, etc......but everyone has a story behind it. I also have a Mauser 3000 with a gorgeous piece of french walnut on it with rosewood grip caps, etc. I carry it once or twice a year but it's too pretty to carry most of the places I hunt. I also hunt with an AR quite a bit but it just doesn't have the character of my 700, it's probably more practical but I've kind of gone back to loving wood at this point. Who knows, I love them both.
The firearms in my safe are 50/50. The wood stocks I believe are more for the light use, perfect conditions hunt. I really take extra care to keep from scratching them. Synthetics are made to take slightly more punishment. I have no preference.
