I do sometimes and don't really worry about it. Regardless if I get a pic of a deer or not not many live on the property I hunt and there's plenty of main roads around that see a lot of traffic. So I put the odds of somebody seeing something I post about the same as somebody driving by and spotting a deer or hitting it with car. I guess I just dont really worry about it, its just a deer.
Nope I will not post them on facebook. I wont even tell anyone where my hunting property is, I will give a city but thats it. Only close friends that have the same mind set as me even get to see pics. I will post on here because im sure no one on here is going to have a clue where they came from and I will only say a county on here.
If it's a bad idea to post hit list bucks on FB then I would say the same for posting them here as well.
Posting them on here is different, somewhat. Like myself, my SN is Indynotch. Ok so we narrow my location down to Indianapolis. (Let's assume I don't have my location on there). There's not much you can do with that. Indynotch is not my or my family's name, so you have less search criteria. But on facebook, it's much easier. It give you a name and a location. For example, the one I saw this morning, he was from Pekin, IL. It also has his first and last name. I can use that information to find his land or family land. Now I have land to search. Again, this is a minimal chance, everything has to line up. However, it's a numbers game. If this guy hunts his own land, I can easily find exactly where he is hunting and now can poach a monster buck.
I don't understand putting anything on facebook. If I wanted my buddies to know what I'm doing I'll call them and tell them.
I am far more concerned about the many many road hunters that I fight each year on my property than I am about someone trying to track down a hit lister that I post on FB
Everyone in my lil town knows that I am a big bowhunter, and I have a history of killing big deer. I can't go anywhere this time of year without someone stopping me and either wanting to share a pic with me or asking if I have any good ones on cam or just in general wanting to BS about deer hunting or tactics. This is part of what I love about my small town. Last year pictures of the deer I killed made it clear around the state and back to me by people I didn't even know within 3 days. I didnt even have FB then. lol so.................................. (was actually brought to my attention by my local game warden who had it sent to him by a biologist on the opposite side of the state) Point is things travel, it is no secret that I go out of my way to attempt to let them get big, there will always be some D bag out there looking for the easy kill on a monster. I wont let that effect how I live my life. Besides 99% of my FB friends are guys and gals from this site. Actually the only reason I got on FB was after meeting many of you fine folks over this past summer.
I actually ran into someone hiking my property line on the place my family has in PA that asked if I was the guy that wrote journal entries for huntingnet.com years ago. That really opened my eyes. Big bucks don't happen often in NY and PA and people pay attention when you post pics and talk about it. There are multiple big bucks posted on this forum within the last few months that I know exactly where they are located. Like Fletch - I'd never move in on someone whether I liked them or didnt' like them.........but if I wanted to I'd already have enough info to know exact pieces of land where there are monster bucks living. I'm hesitant to share or post pics at times even when one has been killed.
I hold some back but post most of them. There are some locals that try to sneak into your back pocket around here.
I've gotten burned from ******* wannabe bear guides. They know where I hunt and will do anything to find out exactly where I am and what I'm seeing. Posting them on fb would just help the cause. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
On a different hunting forum I won't post any buck pics period. The neighboring land owners son in law would love it if I did. He's a member of that site. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
Can't blame ya. I also think guys who show their landowner pics of monster deer, are asking for a kick to the nuts. I don't post anything on FB, but I have no problem showing them here. Nobody has a clue to where I hunt, and if they found out, I would have to kill them.
