Do you (or would you) buy a treestand off Craig's List?

I'll tell you something. There are deals to be had on Craig's list for tree stands. But at what cost?

Would you buy a used tree stand on Craig's list? I'm not talking about buying junk or home made tree stands. I'm talking about knowing the make and model of it and it appears to show little use (just a year or two old).

I am really on the fence right now (looking at several ones). Obviously there is some risk with buying something used from someone you don't know that you will be trusting your life with (minus a safety harness).

But on the other hand, if you can save significant money while buying something that has been used very little (in some cases) AND you are using a safety harness, why not?

    Thoughts?

I would but I'd try to get a feel for the seller. If I didn't think he was a hunter I might think it was stolen and then I'd stay away from it. I would also be very careful about the shape its in.

Yes, assuming I looked at the stand and it appeared to be solid.........why not? As long as I'm not sending payment or my CC info to nigeria, and the product seems good.........why not?

I'd like to do a face to face with the seller. If everything seems to check out on it I would have no problem buying one

The only thing I would do is replace the straps if it has them otherwise go for it.

I have dealt with Graigs list and will tell you 1st hand...Meet the seller in person to do the exchange! Stay local and only do cash transactions in person. Do not accept moneyorders and do not use paypal...CASH ONLY. There are definately some good deals and good people out there, but you never know. As far as items that have been stolen that is always a chance you take...You can not rely on getting a feel for someone. Like it or not it is a chance you take. In person transactions!!!!!!

Never, who knows how someone treated this stuff. I have a buddy that drops his stands from 10 or 15 feet, his just popped one day. Pretty hard to see hairline cracks. Like others said, is it stolen? I want to know what I'm getting with something I pretty much trust my life with.... I want to see my kids grow old! Makes me wonder why they are selling it so cheap????

I wouldn't worry too much about it, as long as it isn't bent or broken somehow. I made my own stand last year, learning how to weld during the process. So a manufactured stand is probably safer (stronger joints) than the ones I hunt out of regardless of where it came from.

I don't see why not. If you want to make sure just test it out. Strap it on a tree 2 feet off the ground and jump around on it.

    Otherwise, go for it.

i just cant dont trust ebay or craigs list for some reason. i alwasy feel like im going to be screwed over.

id probably but a used stand from a friend or neighbor or something, but i dont know about buying one from a complete stranger, just for the fact that you have to really depend on the integrity and strength of the stand for safety reasons.

There's nothing wrong with buying off of there. It's just like Ebay or anything else. Just be careful and inspect the stuff before you buy it. I bought $1,000 worth of treestands for less than $300 last year from a scorned wife. I tried to buy the truck too, but she was saving it for her son.

i bought a nice climber less than a month ago off of a college kid for nothing and it is solid doing business with folks on the net is no easier or harder than any other type you just have to be smart and use good judgement you know if you are going to the hood to buy it off of 3 teeth tyrone that its probably as hot as his stem is going to be as soon as you pay him for the stolen item.which brings me to equipment & common sense if you hunt and you know there is folks that is on your land or the land you hunt dont leave your stand there unless its locked and cant be cut off with a bolt cutter and your game cam's be smart the **** isnt cheap and times is hard so be smart and insure that your equipment is secure b4 you leave it.
