I love the fact VA is a sleeper state. We have big bucks for sure. I see mountable deer every season(mountable to me is probably 130"-140") and not just on the Eastern Shore where they just seem to be bigger by default. I see them in Chesapeake, Sussex, Lynchburg, hell even 15 minutes from the ocean front tourist trap that is VA Beach.

But alas seeing them and killing them is two different things entirely so I just hope to maintain access to some of the same land until the amount of time I can go hunting grows(which could be a while). Until then I'm just thankful to get out there when I can and I am glad the kids want to go more and more as well.

I can't say the same as far as bucks in NC, I have hunted there a lot over the years and would say VA has produced more in terms of bucks for myself and close hunting friends than NC by far. Lets' just say old bucks don't retire to NC from other states and they never live to retirement age if they are natives.

Just a small correction to a few guys...............big bucks aren't just in South Texas, I've seen a few come out of North East Texas (along the Red River), the Panhandle, Central/Hill Country, and West Texas...............Carry On:D

The Texas record bowkill is out of Grayson county near the Oklahoma border, just south of Lake Texoma. It came off Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge. A draw hunt.

Yeah, in combination with drawing his Wyoming Elk tag and Wyoming Moose tag... my dad drew Hagerman too. He lives 40 minutes from there and scouts it ALL the time. Some guys have all the luck! :D
