Not anymore. I learned a valuable lesson this year. Even a perfect shot can lead to a lost deer on a rainy day. It turns into a "wheres waldo".
Personally I don't do it if it's harder than a drizzle. A few guys I know of shot bucks on opening saturday last week and neither deer was found. Makes me sick thinking about it. So I don't take any chances for just that reason.
I dont like hunting in the rain that much, very hard to track once shot, but I've seen the biggest bucks on the worst days. About a week ago, it was drizzling rain and then became steady rain, I was about to leave and noticed a nice buck about 75 yards out. Passed just out of range, but it made me feel better about sitting in the rain for hours.
I have hunted in a drizzle and have been very successfull , put the shot in there where it belongs and get down and get it .
I do not hunt in the rain. That being said I can hunt everyday so I don't have to go. It is pretty easy to say put the shot where it belongs but things happen fast in the woods. Way bigger risk than reward in my opinion.
I absolutley DRILLED a big mature doe last Saturday through both lungs... I couldn't have jabbed it through any better by hand if I'd tried, and she ran over 100 yards and I couldn't find any blood the first 40 or so. Strangest thing I've ever seen, but ya just never know out in the real world what can happen. To answer the topic at hand, I love being out there if it's a light drizzle about to let up. I feel the deer will come out then after they've been "couped up" a bit and stretch their legs. If it looks like it'll be steady all day, I personally have found it to be better off staying home.
Yes!! Deer will come out and "play" in the rain right when it starts to rain like little kids. Although the rain will make tracking tough, a good shot and a quick track are what you need. I would hunt in the rain any day as long as I can be there before the rain starts.
Ive had my best hunt this year in the rain. Rained for two days straight so i said screw it and sat on the edge of a field with apple trees at both ends. Saw two does a fawn, five turkeys, and the back end of pretty decent sized deer.
Not any more. I used to. But know I have more time to hunt, so I can afford to piock and choose when I Hunt. However, if I'm in my stand I will continue to hunt as long as it doesn't pour. Sometimes I hunt from ground blind when there is a chance of rain.
Hunting after drizzle or light rain is worth trying as long as you know your hunting area. Making a good shot has to be your priority. Second, watch the deer's path of travel after your shot and listen. I found my buck just by listening to the crash when he fell dead out of sight. Some luck never hurts either. Good luck hunting.
Besides the obviouse that it is harder to track blood when or after a bit of rain, i must say I still hunt in it. to me it feels so good walking in the bush & up large hills stalking deer in the rain, not to mention everything smells so nice, I suppose it also makes stalking easyer as the rain will mask any small noises you make while walking & makes for quieter foot steps in general. to me the only downside is if Im lucky enough to get anything, blood tracking may prove hard if its nessesary. if its reall heavy rain I doubt I would still like to be in it for long however.
Light rain yes. If it's a moderate to heavy substained rain I will go out and try to get set up just before it stops because some of the best deer movement can be right after such a rain.
