The big boy I would love to get a shot at I have never got on camera. He's very elusive and I saw him 2 years ago and my brother in law saw him last year but other than that, we have no idea where he's from. He only shows up for a week or two during the rut and then poof - he gone.

image.jpg Here is a pic of one I got here in March, not a giant by some standards but he is more than enough to make me happy.

The best part is I have pics of him with a bachelor group and two of the other bucks are only slightly smaller than him. I found this group after deer season while I was looking for turkeys and pigs in an area I had never hunted before.

I don't have a picture of my target buck but a neighbor has him on a cell phone picture taken next to my house. He is a 22-24 inch wide perfect 10 pointer that should go 170. I killed his running buddy, another 10 pointer, this last season and he was tall but more narrow but still scored 164. Is saw the wide 10 twice but never was offered the shot. Maybe this year...

This is the first year I stressed the importance of mineral stations and I'm certainly glad I did. Doing so has led me to finding my target buck for this upcoming season. I have been getting pictures of a few nice(r) bucks each year but without much consistency. Finally, I think I'm beginning to understand my property better which is also helping me identify my target buck.

About a month back I got pictures of a buck coming into one of my mineral stations. After a few pictures I noticed this buck had a split in his left ear. So I went back through my pictures last year and noticed that my best buck picture was of a deer with split-ear . After looking back through pictures I found that I've been getting pictures of this buck since 2010. Needless to say I'm as excited as ever to watch this deer continue to grow this year..

    Here is the progression:
