Never bought a car from a dealership... always family friends with used car lots. Dealerships are rediculous, I'll go look, but that's about it, I cant stand most of them. I work at a mom and pop restaurant on evenings and weekends, going on 7 years now, I'm sick of the place, but they are family to me. My butcher's shop is beside his house, call him up, if he's not there, he just tells me to put it in the cooler for him. Auto insurance is from a Local agent that has always been our insurance guy and always went out of his way to help us in anyway we've ever needed him. I don't care if I'm paying more, it's worth it. I do my fair share of wal mart shopping, but help the little man everychance I get. Not always easy when your under the little man yourself though.
This town supposedly has 700 people but I think the sign is lying. For businesses... there's a bar, (I don't drink but I did order a pizza from them once.), a tiny bank that is named after a different town and a grain elevator. That's pretty much it. No gas station, no stores... ...wait, there is a 'coffee shop' but it consists of a room with two tables, couple of chairs, a coffee maker and a jar for money. That's it! So, I can't really buy much at a true local level. I did go into what I think is the closest butcher shop (15 miles). I wanted to buy some rib-eyes but they charge $14 per pound!! Most of the meat we eat is from deer we kill and I butcher myself. When we suck at hunting, I take my friends extra deer. (my friends are better deer killers ) Most of the fish we eat is from fish we've shot and we get a bunch of salmon/halibut from my friend who catches it up in AK. Most of our produce is grown here in the yard. We have our own laying hens. We'll be raising broiler chickens this year. However, when I have to buy stuff... I will usually go to the Super Walmart since it's the closest.
I do on many things... and try to put my money back into local businesses. Especially with my current job.. we could be saving a good amount of money going through out of state companies, but instead I always try to do it here 1st. Plus it takes me at least 30 minutes to get to any bigger businesses like Walmart, Target, Home Depot, etc.. So if I have to pay a few extra bucks to save the trip, it's worth it to me.
I go local everytime, ya know, the small ma and pa places and don't mind paying extra, in fact I'd rather support the smaller business man! The guy that made my last bow is close by, my arrow guy is even closer! I just today switched from Carbon Express arrows as they are made in Korea to arrows that are made in the USA, every little bit helps!
It depends. My archery stuff all goes to Maryland. Fishing and gun stuff is bought locally if they have it. Some things are just not carried here or they don't have the sizes or whatever. I then revert to the internet. For example... most of my top end fly fishing stuff is purchased via internet from Montana. It's just the way it is.
I can only guess what that was suposted to mean, but I assure you that I have purchased a dozen and a half bows locally over the years.
I don't know why everybody else buys local, but I do it because the quality of the product is usually better. That's what I am looking for, not rather or not it's local. If a chain is better than a local shop, I'll go to the chain.
Honestly no I do not give much business to the town closest to me which Is the town I went to school at. However the Cenex store In this town gets my diesel business, $4,500 a month I spend on diesel. This will be changing soon as I'm looking elsewhere. I'm just not a fan of this town or the people In It. Most of my business Is done In smaller towns north of me 20 miles. They have more of a country atmosphere then the city slicker attitude they have where I went to school.
I have two businesses and really go out of my way to do bussiness with those that do business with me.
