Was just thinking about this the other day on the way to the butcher shop... I use this shop for all of my lunch meats as well as cheese and some of our other meats. All are locally produced. I use a local insurance agent, tax professional, copy center etc etc.... I try to stay local with as much as I can. I just wondered if you give any buisness to local folks.... Support your neighbors if you never thought about it
Certainly. My brother-in-laws business is where I get gas and buy subs, chicken, etc. I've bought almost $1500 worth of retaining wall block and stone veneer from two local brothers, get taxes done by a local firm, go to a local hardware store often, bought my gas fireplace from a Lock Haven business, go to Rob's house for bow work, etc:D
Yup. I know the butcher by name. My tax people are just up the street. I obviously support my local archery shop, gun shop and any other small business that's practical.
I've got the meat-processing shop's owner's cell phone and home numbers programmed in my cell... he'll drive down and open up for me after hours if I ask him to so I can drop a deer off. It's like Cheers when I walk in there, and I'm Norm. Guess that's what happens when you drop off six or seven deer a year for the last seven or eight years... I get all my haircuts locally too.... :D Those are the first two things that come to mind...
If the price is right I will. If not I'll go where the best deal is. Not necessarily the cheapest price, but the best deal will always win. Don't really care why, where or who has the better deal comes from.
We buy all our beef from a local farm, All our cornmeal, buckwheat from a local mill. And of course we get all our maple syrup locally.
I buy my meats and vegetables from the local market. I also rarely eat at chains restaurants, but that is mainly because they are horrible. I hate it when I go to my favorite local place on a Saturday night, and I'm able to be seated right away, but when I drive by Applebee's/Chilis/Olive Garden or any other crappy chain, people are waiting out the door to eat glorified TV dinners. Makes me sick.
I buy all my construction materials at the local lumberyard, I refuse to buy from menards and all of my subs are local guys.
I try to as much as possible. The one exception is archery. We have only 2 pro shops in our area and they are both losers. Now I have drive over an hour to get my bow serviced.
I do as long as it makes sense for a given product... sadly, I'm not paying double for something I can get somewhere else... I like to do biz with the little guys and often its worth the little extra to have 'em around...
If by local you mean I drive the shortest distance possible to get what I need, then yes. For the most part though, we don't have much "local business" except bars. My local gun store gets supported frequently by me. In fact I have to stop there this week.
I do both. A lot of it depends on time and money, but I prefer to do business locally. It way more fun when it's more personnel.
Nope... ...I buy everything at WalMart! ouch!!!! No really, I have a local true value that I love, even though it is a bit more expensive. It is convenient. I have a gas station that I have bought nearly every tank of gas from since we moved to this town. There is a subway that the wife and I go to, who we know the owner. The bait shop ain't the biggest but they got fresh bait. I have bought all of my bows from the same proshop nearby. With that said, there are times that it just don't make sense financially.
We buy all our vegetables from local farmers when in season, I buy some things from bowhunting.com since they are local, Cabela's is local and I go there when I have gift certificates, use a bow shop 20 miles away and sit at the local bar from time to time drinking beer in the can.
